Good but not too pricey photo scanner?

Thanks for info

Seems to be a decent machine.
Time, when I am actually using it, won't be a problem. I have patience for things of that nature, and I don't mind having to use a computer.

Let me know how the scanner works. Even though my scanner works very well.... I have completed all my slides and using a flat scanner would be a lot quicker than mine which reqires mounting in a holder.

The good thing about mine is that it has size settings so the picture requires no editing. I assume the scanner has no size seting and each picture will need to be cropped? In that case mine would still be quicker?

Most flat bed scanners, including this Epson, have an auto cropping feature for this purpose. Whether you want to trust it is another story.

This link may or may not work for you:
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/suppo...form=OSF_W_7-64

If not, go to epson.com, choose your country, then type V37 into the search box at upper right. Further drilling will be needed.

Ok I got these options: which ones do I need? Will all of them be useful, or just the "Drivers+Scan utility" one?
(underlined below)

Quote:
Document Capture Pro v1.6.8
10/17/14 33.4 MB epson16678.exe Download

EPSON Scan OCR Component v2.30
09/04/14 60.2 MB epson16330.exe Download

Scanner Driver and EPSON Scan Utility v3.921
11/06/12 47.5 MB epson14907.exe Download

Epson Copy Utility v4.1.1
07/25/13 6.5 MB epson16827.exe Download

EDIT: Nevermind - I could click on them and was able to get more info - they all perform different functions, and I think I will get them all for now, and ignore any CDs that come with it for now.

editable PDF creation seems cool ("Scan OCR" above). (wifey always wanted that; i knew I could create PDFs but didn't think they would be editable - this I consider a bonus function)

Scanner should be arriving tonight "before 8 pm" . Will probably play with it tomorrow.

I bought a Canon scanner for $100 on Amazon...then when my Dad passed I scanned all of his photos. I am going to upload them to a cloud storage service so my family members can use them from all over the country.

Flickr is pretty nice and easy for that. I have a number of accounts If you have a Yahoo email you use that name and password.

Any feedback on it yet?

Just unpacked. (wasn't able to yesterday)

Works great, pretty quick (depends on settings).
Still tinkering with software - so many options. I DL'd the SW from Epson website. A lot of settings to work with. Right now I am using full auto, and the quality of old color photos are very good, but there are so many settings in Professional Mode I don't know what they even mean most of the time.

Will tinker with software further, but first impressions of speed, image quality, ease of use are great.

Will update further.

This is actually the nice part about this scanner - it comes with very capable software to correct old photos, for example remove dust, creases, restore color from faded photos, etc. The scanning software that came with my HP all-in-one has none of these.

The PDFs themselves are not editable (unless you buy a PDF editing software), but they are searchable. You can also convert such PDF to Word, and then edit the text in Word.

The manual and Amazon description says something about editable PDFs if you install the SW on the CDs that come with it...

But how can they be any different than what I DL's from Epson website? Perhaps I should see what's on the CD...

For the price, this really is an impressive scanner, IMO. I just used some of my accumulated Discover cash back bonus and bought one, too.

Cool !
Let me know about PDF stuff when you get a chance to play with it
I am going to install the software CDs that came with scanner on wife's laptop and see if they're any different from what I DL'd from Epson

Did yours come with a USB cable or did you have to buy one separately?

Description says that a "high speed USB cable" is included.

There was one included, but not knowing that i had ordered a much higher quality Mediabridge one for $5
Guess I will just keep it, anyway.

Well the CDs had SW that the Epson site did not have -
I installed the SW that came with the CD on wife's - looks like the SW needed for creating the searchable / (and editable?) PDFs were on that CD.

Will update.

I see it on Epson's website:

Quote:
EPSON Scan OCR Component v2.30
09/04/14 60.2 MB epson16330.exe Download
Description: This file contains the EPSON Scan OCR Component v2.30. This component adds the following functionality:

Create searchable PDFs with EPSON Scan and Document Capture Pro v1.02.00 or later.
Convert scanned document to Microsoft Word (DOCX), Excel (XLSX) and PowerPoint (PPTX) documents with editable text using Document Capture Pro v1.05.00 or later. Note: Document Capture Pro is available for select models only.

OK. Here's a screenshot of wife's Epson folder.
(Per amazon review, the one called ABBYY-FineReader is the one that plays with creating PDFs, etc - but amazon reviews are often wrong / inaccurate, so who knows?) ... I haven't tried any of this yet on her laptop.
