i am looking for a good anti virus/malware protection and more for my computers that does it all i store customers key codes and some safe combinations in code of course but i still need good protection what is the best anti virus that i could buy at a good price? i am using a free one called microsoft security essentials but i need something more secure and something that does not slow down my pc to much any ideas?
thank you

with browser hijacker being rampant these days, I'm becoming a big fan of malwarebytes.

For pure AV, I've used Sophos, Avast, Eset and Kaspersky labs.

In terms of safety, there's no such thing called absolute 100% safe. In terms of malware/virus/trojan, someone, somewhere out there must become ground-zero before the antidote comes out as virus definition to protect the rest of the population.

Q.

Theres no holy grail in the antimalware world (Just like in BITOG).
The best way to protect yourself is using a layered approach.

MSE is no longer being pushed by Microsoft. Go with ESET.

Also unsure how you are storing the valuable information you mention, but consider LASTPASS, its free and while it mainly a password manager (and a good one at that) it also handles secure notes which are basically free text. Everything you enter into LASTPASS gets encrypted (on your computer) and stored on their server.

+1 Avast is the best free AV, consistently rated near the top in AV testing. If you want a paid AV go with ESET. If you buy ESET from Newegg be sure it is the full internet security suite and not just their stand alone antivirus.

Why? Their standalone antivirus product is excellent, filters malicious website, e-mail....etc. And has an extremely small footprint.

I am sure ESET is fine, but I just would not want to pay for a stand alone AV when Avast is free and essentially offers the same protection and features.

It offers similar protection and features. But isn't as lightweight and in my experience doesn't do as good a job blocking malicious sites as NOD32. But for the price of free, yes, it is a good product.

If you have sensitive information you need to protect, the best way is to isolate it onto a 2nd computer, and minimize all activity on that computer.

This computer can be a slower, older computer. Reinstall the OS from scratch. Only install the minimal stuff on it like antivirus and web browser. Do not surf the web or do anything that can compromise it. Set firewall and security settings on High. Do not share files. Keep it off when not in use.

To answer your Q, I've used AVG for years and Avast for 1 year. I'm a little ticked at AVG because it allowed one of my computers to get infected a few years ago, but other than that it has been stout
