Just wanted to share a company with y'all that I've recently discovered - Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements:
Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements
I normally wear a beard for most of the year, but around this time of year when it's consistently in the 90s, I usually shave it, and that makes me start to think of aftershaves.
One thing I don't care for is to be able to smell someone across the room. An aftershave or fragrance should be something you only get a whiff of when you get near someone's personal space. It shouldn't be too strong. But, done right, a good quality fragrance is a good thing.
A few years ago, I discovered Bay Rum aftershave and became a fan. Since then I've tried a couple of different brands, including Barberry Coast and Ogallala. All the companies have their own formulations, and they all smell a bit different. I enjoy trying the different brands.
The company I mentioned above, PAA, has several different varieties, and the guy who started the company, (his pen name is Douglas Smythe - not his real name, I don't think), is quite the interesting and creative character. He's obviously quite passionate about shaving and fragrances, and I've enjoyed reading about his adventures and travels in search of interesting and unique fragrances.
He puts very detailed descriptions of each fragrance.
I also like that he offers samples of the aftershaves and shaving soaps. At $1.45/ea, the samples are a great way to try all the myriad of fragrances they offer. I just received my order of 13 of the ones that I thought were most interesting, 4 of which are Bay Rum variants.
Given that fragrances should be applied sparingly, I'm actually surprised at the quantity provided in each vial for only $1.45. I can get quite a bit of use just out of these samples!
I'll try them one at a time. Today I tried the Atomic Bay Rum, and it's really good. Starts off spicy, and dries down to a scent that reminds me of a classic, vintage barbershop aftershave scent.
