Going to the thicker side

I’m just happy I didn’t have 5W20 in it as the Kia Seltos engine oil cap suggested . The OM calls out 5W20 , 5W30 or 10W30 .
What year seltos? We have a 24 seltos awd turbo. After the second free oil change, I'll be switching it to a 5w30. But if the owners manual says 10w30, that'll be what goes in

So, honestly, this topic (probably the biggest on BITOG) is the one I think about a lot. Two new Mazdas. Warranty considerations. Reality is, in no way will going to a 30 weight over the OEM "recommended" 20 weight will cause engine issues (especially in South Carolina - HOT.)

I just wonder if, for real, if I had an engine failure and Mazda saw I used 5W-30 or 0W-30, could they have a leg to stand on to deny my warranty?

How are they going to see it? Don’t document it. If you do document it as in taking photos of the work performed. Take photos of 0W20 bottles and use 0W30. Manufacturers do t waste time with uoa’s.

Receipts?

I'm a rebel. I live in Georgia. I don't have a need to run 0W-anything even in the dead of winter.

Oh sure, the non-invasive governmental think-tanks tell me that low viscosity oil is "for the children" but I still think deforestation and bioengineered foods just don't make sense.
Fractions of seconds faster protection at start up if you use 0W (lol !)

With the level of viscosity index improvers in 0W oils, there will be shear. Also, HTHS may be a factor.
Absolutely, unless he goes Redline 0w30 with its 3.3 hths or another low/no VI boutique. I used the M1 0w30 and it sheared rather quickly and was disappointing. Still have one almost full jug, might spike with RL for some stability.

In the Pilot anyway. Since new I ran Amsoil SS 0W20 67K currently and followed the OLM since its DI. Giving SS 0W30 a try.

N. Texas
I would use Amsoil SS 10W-30.
iirc, no vm & 4.1 Noack!
Forget the 0W.

You are "going to the thicker side" in N. Texas with a DI ... why not get serious and consider a 40? lol I may! I'm sure Amsoil has some nice 10W-40.

So you should lie...............:(

I found mexican owner manual for my Acura 2020 RDX at honda.mx, and all of a sudden there is a list of oils I can use: 0w-20/5w-30/10w-30/0w-30.
So yeah, its totally safe to use Xw-30 in your Honda engine, its just CAFE nonsense.

Just curious…. Which 0w-30? AFE? …or ESP?

Yes, have to have receipts, so kind of stuck.....

I'm okay with running 20 weight until warranty out at 60K.

Receipt with 5w-30 will be perfectly fine. The manual has “recommended viscosity”, not required.
They will not be allowed to deny warranty just because its 5w-30 on the receipt

That's true. It says "0W-20 required" to maintain fuel economy, or something like that.

Same nonsense for the Odyssey I had. A USA-CAFE thin oil manual, and a global manual for everyone else with a thicker grade spec listed.

Stupidity.
