When this site first started we wouldn't have considered 0w30 to be a thick oil, that would be considered thin! The thick camps were running Xw40 or Xw50.
Right. NEVER use 0w-30 in a hot climate. When this site first started we wouldn't have considered 0w30 to be a thick oil, that would be considered thin! The thick camps were running Xw40 or Xw50.
There are still a lot of people out there who are confused as to what makes an oil thicker than another. For instance I still see some Corvette owners posting that they don’t want to use a “thin watery oil like 0w40” and they want to stick with 5w30 because they think it’s the thicker viscosity![]()
I wouldn’t want that guy anywhere near my carsI've had a certified mechanic argue with me that 5W-20 is thicker than 0W-40.
Bla bla bla, will last out of warranty. Bla Bla bla no problem for 250,000 miles, bla bla bla body will rust out before engine bearings wear...I'm very surprised none of the "thin" crowd have posted ... "May the farce be with you."
I drove through TX and AZ back to CA also in 110+ degrees. Was very confident having Valvoline syn 10w30 in the engineJust finished driving through the lower California Valley with temps approaching 110 F. with a loaded 4 cylinder SUV , high speed , higher reving interstate passing lane driving , etc. made me more comfortable knowing I had M1 5W30 EP in the crank case .
Man, 30 grade? I'd be nervous. Better up it to 40 next time if you value your vehicle.Just finished driving through the lower California Valley with temps approaching 110 F. with a loaded 4 cylinder SUV , high speed , higher reving interstate passing lane driving , etc. made me more comfortable knowing I had M1 5W30 EP in the crank case .
Welcome to the dark side......In the Pilot anyway. Since new I ran Amsoil SS 0W20 67K currently and followed the OLM since its DI. Giving SS 0W30 a try.
I’m just happy I didn’t have 5W20 in it as the Kia Seltos engine oil cap suggested . The OM calls out 5W20 , 5W30 or 10W30 .Man, 30 grade? I'd be nervous. Better up it to 40 next time if you value your vehicle.
Yesterday I change the oil in the pilot to 0W30. Drives great. I’ll be sticking with it.Welcome to the dark side......
I prefer 5 or 0w30 in all my engines.
I have run 20 weights before but prefer the 30 again
Especially on my timing chains
Dude, that was just rude.Bla bla bla, will last out of warranty. Bla Bla bla no problem for 250,000 miles, bla bla bla body will rust out before engine bearings wear...
Maybe because you are the antagonist. I'm neither a thicky or a thiny. You folks are just being rude.I'm very surprised none of the "thin" crowd have posted ... "May the farce be with you."
I think you spelt it wrong. It should be thiccc-kerI've been going to the progressively thicker side for 20 years now little by little. .....oh, we talking about oil?
Not a fan of either party myself. Was just making a reference to the Spaceballs movie.Maybe because you are the antagonist. I'm neither a thicky or a thiny. You folks are just being rude.
