how is the crankcase ventilated if no pcv valve?

Don’t know about the OP’s, but some cars used a “draft tube”. They worked “OK” when the car was moving at a good clip, as long as unhealthy air to breathe was not a concern.

But at low speeds, or in traffic, the passenger compartment was very stinky. And the engine bay was an oily mess.

Other than those difficulties, they were fine.

Yes I forgot about those! I bet that hand-crank starter is a BEAR on that 8.1 🤣

I had a factory draft tube on my 1965 Ford Mustang K code. I really wanted to keep the car as original as possible, but the thing was too nasty to endure, and made cleaning the engine a frequent chore. So I put the factory ‘66 PCV system on and lived happily ever after

The vent is built into the intake on the 8.1L and has no check ball like a normal PCV. There is a short metal tube on the bottom of the intake that sits horizontally, the problem I'm told is it can suck up oil from the valley. I had it off once, don't want to do it again, the bugger is heavy.

My 2002 Jaguar XKR is another one of those cars without a traditional PCV device. It has two breathers, one is called a “part load breather” and the other one is called a “full load breather”. Neither one has any kind of check valve.

Amazingly the car uses no oil, even with 188,880 miles on it.
