Being a service advisor for over a year now, it makes me sick when I try to talk a customer into some minor maintenance and they say "I'ts a lease, I don't have to do anything to it!" Makes me just want to break their neck.

On another note, but sort of related, our loaner Grand Am's at the GM dealer I work at get 3k mile/3 month OCI's regardless of the OLM. Probably just in case the prospective owner wants to see the maintenance records I guess. Plus they probably assume that the loaners get rode hard. They keep the loaners I think 25-30k miles.

I bought a bunch of the Pep Boys calendars that had the Buy 3 Get3 Free coupon in them. So, with Mobil 1 Rewards and the coupon, I've been paying about $2.xx per quart. That's why I'll be sticking to that stuff for a while. I only have a few days of that coupon left, so I have to find a Pep Boys here in Houston to use them up. Then again, at 10k intervals, it will be a long time on the 30+ qts I have right now.

I've always taken good care of vehicles. It's just the way I was brought up. My wife chooses to lease since she likes having a new car. It's her money, so that's her choice. I just do my job as grease monkey/detailer/shadetree mechanic around the house. My cars typically look a lot newer than they are and run well too. A little bit of maintenance goes a long way.

Results like this really show that the 3,000 mile interval is a thing of the past. Too bad not enough people understand that.

Where does one obtain these calendars? I'd like to pick up some M1 0w40 for my next experiment in oil :-) (the Titans seem to do pretty well with it)

I'm improving, little by little.

Brons...They were only available at the start of 2005, end of 2004. They expire in less than a week, so I need to do some more shopping.

plus most of the PepBoys I have been too have never had 0w40 M1 in stock-just the 5/10w30's and 15w50's. The coupon deal is over as of saturday the 31st!!!! Was a GREAT deal!! 140qts+++ in stock now - I'm GOOD for awhile - A BIG WHILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! long live the the coupon dealllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've got an opinion on the Trailblazer, for the poster that was wanting one-

We had a 2003 Trailblazer EXT with the I-6 4.2L engine for 23 months, put 26,000 miles on it.

I hated it. It is a complete Frankenstein in my opinion. The engine is a complete piece of junk. Absolutely no power, no torque, and horrible fuel mileage. Granted, this is in the EXT model, which is about 400 lbs heavier than the regular model. But many owners have shared their disgust with me about both models.

Myself, and most of these others, are or have been full-size truck/Suburban GM owners with the 5.3L V8. There is a world of difference between the power, torque and fuel mileage of the 5.3L and the junk 4.2 I-6.

The Trailblazer/Envoy also has a serious list of safety recalls. Go ask a GM service advisor if they'd buy one.

Changing the oil in them is a severe pain. The 4.2L holds 7 quarts, I would hope you could go 10,000 miles on full synthetic. I wouldn't, knowing that the engine runs some serious RPM's.

Our average fuel mileage in town was 13.5, the very best it got on the flat, long interstate drives was 19.

I'd run as far away from one as I could!

To be fair thooks it is the heavier model and and IMO no person should expect stellar fuel economy in town on any SUV.

It could be worse and be a newer Dodge Durango, I hear they get horrid fuel economy.

No power? Explain, gets up to highway speed fine, and passes fine. Maybe not as well with the V8 but that also cost more.

I have been told you can really unlock a lot of power with a really inexspensive tune, GM really was conservative with them.

Unless you are planning to purchase the vehicle after the lease expires you are throwing good money after bad on the uoas and the syn oil on the lease vehicle. Do only what you are required to do to satisfy your obligation on the lease .Not one speck more . You entered a busisness agreement treat it as such. That is how you are to the lease company.

Holy old thread Batman!

As I mentioned previously in the thread, I had a large collection of Mobil 1 that cost me about $2 per quart. I also mentioned that I take pride in the vehicles I take care of. Everyone has different standards when it comes to these things.

I still stand by my previously posted comments regarding the reasons for my choice of oil and the one-time UOA.

I'm with you Scott---I even check the oil in rental cars. One time in 1992 in Salt lake City I rented a brand new Olds 88-drove it for about 200 miles-gently- and then when it had about 600 miles we took it across 9 states in a week and put on about 5K miles. When I checked the oil after the first 200 miles, it was 2 quarts down. Added one quart then went in and bought another qt. When it was time to return the car, the Avis dude did not want to reimburse me for the second quart! He claimed it was a duplicate receipt. How's that for gratitude? (It was probably such an unusual situation he didn't know how to deal with it)

if i ever leased i would change the oil cuz i wouldnt want to screw the next person who bought it..not that you need m1
