Gmail undo Sent messages.

This would be useful in a corporate setting, where sometimes the off-hand remarks go to the wrong people.

Apparently it's only a 5 second delay - maybe this would be better.

I think Gmail Labs also sports and email "goggles" function whereby you have to answer a (basic) skill testing question before your message gets sent. It'd help to force you to think twice before firing off that email that you'd prefer NOT be sent after you've sobered up!

If I know Micro$oft at all, the feature would only work with Exchange Server.

i once sent a report to a client. it had a VERY BAD MISTAKE in it.

I tried to "recall" the message using outlook.

all that happened was, the client (head of a mine) got a message saying "X wants to recall th is message... Click OK or cancel"

he wasn't too impressed... called my boss saying "not quite sure what to make of your guy asking to recall a message".

I just resent the corrected report. the hard copy is the defining one in any case so it worked out OK.

embarrassing. you can't unring a bell.

First Class email client (whats used at work) lets you 'unsend' a message. (you can also see the history to determine if its been read, forwarded, attachments saved, etc). As long as the message is unread, it can be unsent.
Probably work great within gmail, not so good for mail that has to go to other servers, where there probably will only be a short window to unsend as google will hold onto the message before releasing it.

That's the key: Using FirstClass, the message remains on the one central server and can *easily* be "recalled". As soon as it's gone to another machine, though...
