Speaking of specs and the oils that carry them. I'm finding it hard to pick out a oil when the pdf files on a oil brand web-site say one thing but the back of the bottle don't list any. Yesterday I visited two local super wal-marts and 2 local AAP stores. I checked out all of the Castrol, Quaker State, Super Tech, and Valvoline line (dino and syn) and to my surprise there NO mention of what specs for these oils. Anyone else notice this?

Any oil that is cincerned with it's customer's know this information will place it in the back label. So you could easily go to a part's store and just read the back labels. Most oil's that meet GM4718M will state this in small print some place on the label.

"QS now meets it, castrol does not. "
What is the source of your information? The GM oil approval list dated August 2007 includes GTX and QS. Pretty much every name brand conventional oil seems to be on that list with the exception that I don't see any of the high mileage formulations there. I wonder if that is because there is something about high mileage formulations which disqualifies them or if it is a marketing thing???
