GM OLM reset when battery is disconnected?

I have not used my OLM before as I was a 3/3 guy before I found this site and never trusted them.

Each of my vehicle has one and was going to start using them now as I trust them more and that the 3/3 method no longer applies, however, all are the older model that only show the "Change Oil" light with no other indication of oil condition.

I don't want it to reset by accident if I ever need to disconnect my battery.

You might want to check the owner's manual if you can. I vaguely recall in an OLM thread here a while ago reading that some of the older GM OLMs would reset on loss of battery power but I'm not sure if it's true or not. Seems pretty dumb if so.

I had the radio replaced a couple times in my Malibu. The OLM % is in the radio display and since I assume they disconnected the battery, it seemed to have held.

I don't have an OLM but this is what i would do if I had a similar situation:
Before disconnecting the battery I would note the mileage on the current OCI, then disconnect/replace the battery.

After that you simply need to momitor the mileage on the OCI just like you did before you trusted the OLM. I would guess that around 5000 mile mark the light should come on (if it wasn't reset when the battery was changed).

If the light does not come on, I would change the oil and reset the light again.

While this doesn't answer your question, it will certainly be a safe approach and would not put too much strain on oil.

Just do the oil change according to your driving condition and don't pay attention to OLM, which can't replace human evaluation.

I heard that Euro cars have 15k OCI on Castro juice that aren't even synthetic. I am not sure if they have OLM rigged for that number or not but I surely wouldn't wait that long to change the oil.
