I just got myself new Lisle 30800 boot clamp pliers. The back of the packaging says:
"The heavy, dimpled, stainless steel clamp used on some GM application must be crimped to a specific torque settings. When crimping the clamp, the aluminum anvil on the tool must be deactivated."
The makes me wonder, would it be OK to leave the anvil there if I knew what the torque setting differential was, the difference caused by the anvil flattening the ear? Does everyone clamping oetikers on GM's leave the ear or ears sticking out, just because they had to use a torque wrench?
