GM Active fuel managment disabled!

Have not gotten a tune yet on the Caprice decided to wait to mess with it until the warranty is up.
I did find a neat little module that plugs into the OBDII port without changing the ECM. It can be removed and there is no evidence of it having been there.
For 189 bucks it was shipped to my door and it works awesome. No more 4cyl drone, instant throttle response not sure about the mileage yet but I will report back. Best money I have spent to date on the Caprice.
Have not heard one bad thing about this product from anyone.

Never heard of being able to change a GM tune without writing to the PCM's file. I'd double check that information.

You can. It is simple as can be have done it the Trans Am and now the Caprice
The program is stored in the module once installed it is like a code reader that can turn on fans, lights, wipers and perform other functions without changing the tune at all. It locks out the 4cly mode. Once removed the ECM receives no commands from the module and it is all normal.
One thing I know about the LS cars is tuning.

Factory GM vehicles equipped with Active Fuel Management can disable AFM in a normal operating condition. Range uses factory messages sent over the CAN-Bus to "tell" the ECU to stay in V8 mode. We do not trick the ECU with false signal readings. We disable at the source and your truck runs as it normally would in 8-cylinder mode.

NO! That's the beauty (and the innovation) behind this technology.

It DOES NOT alter/reprogram/reflash ANYTHING in your vehicle's powertrain systems. It is ONLY active when plugged into the OBD II port and is its own standalone "mini powertrain controller". The module contains a powerful microprocessor and does all the "heavy lifting" to work in concert with the factory powertrain modules to alter the AFM operation.

It DOES NOT override any factory safety features (such as over temperature protection, low oil pressure protection, diagnostic fault protection, etc.) It retains all the factory protections and works within the factory system limits.

When it is time for service or warranty work, simply unplug it from the connector and it is totally removed from the vehicle to allow the dealer service tools to be used.

That is really interesting. The SS does not have AFM, but the Caprice does. My friend that has a SS and had a G8 prior joked how weird the G8 sounded when in 4 cylinder mode, especially after getting a Borla exhaust.

It makes sense it could send commands to the ECM to trigger modes and other things.

I know with Torque on Android if you even probe the wrong PID you can make wacky wacky things happen!

Do they have a program that can delete traction control?
There nothing more frustrating than a 4x4 truck that can't get out of the driveway with an inch of snow on the ground.

Yeah, the Range module has been out for several years. Used one on a 2013 1500 I had previously. They work as advertised and no issues with warranties. All it does is send a sensor code that keeps the AFM stuff from activating. A nice keep it simple solution.

On most every GM vehicle I have driven you can turn it off with the push of a button. Then, if you push and hold it for like 5 seconds it disables the stability control as well.

Every vehicle that I have that has active traction control has a built-in button to turn it off.
