GM 5.3 liter V8/6.2 liter burning oil

I'm on my second interval with R&P. Vortec 6.2L with 253k. Just have to know how much 40 or 50 grade to add to hit your desired thickness.

If oil pressure is a concern, thicken it. If consumption is a concern, thicken it.

After 6 months, 5k miles and 15% left on the OLM, my hot idle was right around 17-20 psi. My consumption was right around .5q in that time.

isn’t that truck spec’d for 5w-30

i guess the 20+ of these trucks i run on 5w-30 are all running incorrectly? i dump the FF for 5w-30 as soon as i possibly can. they don’t use oil on 5w-30 and the valve train doesn’t sound like it’s coming apart.
I also run 5w30 in my 6.2L. It has no issues with AFM at all. Also doesn't burn any oil with 5w30 while the original 0w20 that was in it when I bought it had burned at least a quart of oil when I did my first oil change. Anyone that believes these motors will have issues with running thicker oil because of AFM/DFM doesn't understand how it works at all. The owners manual says to use 0W20 because of CAFE standards, nothing more.

So I left the dealership end of 2020 and I recall these engines having a couple oil burning sources.

Upon initial release it was the piston rings/pistons "being improperly sized for the engine" I interpret that as low tension rings being too low tension. This has been rectified on affected engines. I think it was only 2014-2017 v8's... don't quote me on the years.

Second one that I recall was the valve seals disintegrating essentially. I don't think there was a bulletin for the valve seals but I remember it being the primarily oil burning source on v8's that burned oil. Things would just come apart in your hand upon removal.
