Doesn't the LeSabre have the 3.8 engine? I don't remember hearing of the dreaded gasket/coolant leak on this engine. Is it widespread on this engine also?

Yup, they sure do. My 95 LeSabre got the disease at 120,000 Km. Cost me $600(CDN). Fortunately, there was no serious damage (confirmed by UOA).

Probably. You'd have to get something with the 'new' 3.5L to get away from the LIM gasket woes. It is a shame as the 3.1/3.4 engine/transaxle combo are a strong, economical and pretty reliable setup. Keep the coolant where it should be and they run strong for a long time.

Hi

Since the 3500 malibu V6 is so new, we dont really know how the improved gasket/bolts/proceedure will hold up.

If, they have indeed fixed it, the 3500 could be a worthy choice especially considering its fuel efficiency.

I believe that engine is now in its 3rd production year. Results should be coming in in the next 12 months as the '04s get the miles on them.
