What filter is known for the best ADBV??

I believe in your application the filter sits vertically so an ADBV is not needed since the filter sits full. Carbon knock or piston slap is commmon with the 5.3L. Some dealers will do a piston soak which eliminates the carbon knock for a while but if you are a short trip driver it will be back. I would run a can of seafoam through the throttle body and then go for a spirited highway ride and see if that helps. Note: Neither carbon knock or piston slap will shorten the life or your engine it is simply annoying.

Sorry, I know this is an old thread but did you ever fix your issue? I'm having a very similar one on my Firebird. When I first start it, I get a knock for about 5-10 seconds before it completely vanishes. I'm not sure if it's the oil filter or a stuck lifter. Thanks!
