Ok.. I have given up on the desktop.. after a new HDD and a clean install (Win 7), it boots then hangs, anytime after log-in or within 10 minutes.... Thats it .. end of the road.
(it was running fine when I first installed Win7, All my troubles began when I added anti-virus software...)

Now. I have a few new parts. P-supply, Video card, HDD (IDE).
Considering what to do next:
A- rebuild a new desktop, I'll need MB (inlc mem/processor) and HDD ..
B- new laptop all together, and drop my 2 IDE HDD into enclosures as external HDD; maybe try and sell the PS and Vid card?
C-??
Comments/suggestions..??

Macbook Pro. Problem solved. And this is coming from a convert who up until recently was a die hard PC guy. So much more simplistic and no worry about viruses. You can still utilize windows if you want on a mac with available software.

I'd watch Newegg for a mobo/memory/processor deal.

Try booting what you have with a linux live CD, preferably one with diagnostics. If you have a bad chip of ram it'd be good to know about, though you think this whole mishap is a software thing.

Hmmmm, when I hear things like that my first thoughts go to it being heat related. Are all your fans running fine? Are your cables preventing air flow? Are any of the air vents blocked?

Another thought is the power supply, either it's going bad or doesn't have enough juice to run the system right. You mentioned new power supply, is it the same watts as the last one? Do you still have the old one to test out? You mentioned the new graphics card, what card is it and what did it replace? Some graphics cards are a major draw of power.

Just some thoughts I had when reading your post

maybe try booting from a linux live cd and see if it crashes if it does.. its definitely a hardware issue of some sort..

anything from PSU voltage/ripple to bad memory is possible.

some more likely than others of course.

Thanks for all the input friends..
Judging with your comments, I wouldn't be surprised that its a hardware issue.
Clean installs of win7 still had the same issues, even on a new HD!
So in conclusion, I was about to procure a refurb desktop for a decent price, then the Mrs and I were at Costco and I was looking at an Acer laptop for about $500, she didnt like that one because she didn't recognize the make... "what about this HP.. " she saiz.. all of a sudden my X-Mas gift was in the cart... ;-)
Cheers

Acer's are excellent laptops, actually my first choice out of the others(Sony, Dell, HP/Compaq etc).

Good quality/sturdy material and super easy to upgrade/work on. HP's and Sonys tend to be a bit tougher as they are "life style" machines(not all models, some). To reach super slim status you do not want to try to take it apart for repair, what a headache(even Dells).

Which virus/virii has been found in the wild for the Mac OS X OS?

Check the thermal compound between the CPU and the heatsink. It may need to be replaced, especially if you've had the heatsink off and the original thermal compound was phase change tape.

Just cleaned someone's MacPro. Multiple infections (trojans): Gmailer.class, Gmerrews.class, Greader.class. Owner had given the same line: "Macs do not get viruses", until I showed 36 her infected files.

You run Java--you'll get trojans. No questions about that.

So if as long you do not mind having you Mac turned into a bot, your browser redirected, etc, you are fine running Mac without an antivurus/anti-malware scanner if I understand your reasoning. /sarcasm off

My "unprotected" Mac has no such problems. With a little common sense, malware is easily avoided.
