Not sure what to do. Have a 10lb Chihuahua with recurring Lyme disease once a year. A months worth of Doxycycline ($65) makes it go away for another year. Sounds easy, but each year the Vet(s) want complete evaluations just to tell me whats wrong. $250. Laid off last month, I have to decide on the dogs medication, child support/jail, and the roof over my head. I want to pick my dog, but I'm no good to him or the kids in jail. He's going down hill again, all I need is the Doxycycline.

If anyone has Doxycycline, please PM me. If I can't come up with it, will the humane society take care of him or knock him down? What should I do? Beg?

Have you explained to your vet your situation? I'd think if they knew they would just write the prescription for the meds given the dog's history. At least I think ours would - they will match online prices of meds and flea medicines.

I know I'd hate to see you loose the dog over something so simple.

First all let me say I hate veternarians. They are the number one scumbags in my book. I have two black cats. One got out and spent the night and ended up. Bringing back mange. You can go on Amazon and buy Lime/sulfer treatment for Dogs/Cats/horses for 11.95 plus shipping. If you really want to go full budget. Hydrogen proxide and borax work as well. Read the directions online. Veternarians in Florida are terriable. Can anyone tell me why Flea Medicine and Heartgard are perscription. I have a 13 yo Rottweiler. I am not about to spend 150 dollars to get Flea medicine. I took her to a clinic to keep her on Heartgard. My one cat had a urine blockage, they wanted 700 dollars to give a cat a cathider. I put the cat down over a simple urine blockage. I hope all Veternarians that operate under those practices die a slow and anognizing death.

Sorry to hear. I would talk to the vet and see if they can help you out with a payment plan or something until you're back on your feet. I would not try those sketchy drugs you see online -- you might make the dog even sicker. Home remedies for lyme disease do not sound very reliable either...not exactly like a common cold.

Otherwise I would ask if a family member could help you out, or find some stuff around the house you can sell on Craigslist to come up with the cash. It's very traumatizing for a dog to be given up for adoption and I don't recommend you do that (and if you must, make sure it's a no-kill shelter).

Maybe a payment plan or something - WHATEVER it takes to keep that important member of your family healthy.
The vet should work with you, if for no other reason than it would help ensure you will be back next year. Out vet works with people all the time.

"We did it last year, not again without a complete evaluation". Seriously? They know what it is, they are willing to let him die for a buck. Hes a nice little dog, kids love him. I'm taking his pics how as he fails.

You guys need to get your [censored] together and not have pets if you cant afford them. Would it be right if someone put you down because they could not make a few extra dollers because they were spending their spare time on an oil forum instead of a little extra work. Thats almost as bad as getting rid of their pet cause the place they move to doesnt allow pets. I will never let my pets down. Ever. Hope your dog is worth the 65 $. I think it is. And yes I would beg or steal for mine.

Things happen and people lose their jobs. Pets are indeed expensive but there are always emergencies or accidents.

BTW, aren't there preventative vaccinations for Lyme disease? Probably cheaper and safer than the yearly infection + treatment.

Online pharmacy? Not a great option but might be worth looking into. Not sure what type of quality issues (especially with pet meds) you might encounter.

True I dont mean to be a **** but people need to man up more. Not taking the easy way out just because you can. Your country is getting pretty selfish and if it cared a little more about other things that live in it we would not have to worry about this thread. I bet you dont treat your un living car like that. Why would you treat a living being like that.

What are you talking about? This guy has hit hard times, something that could happen to anyone in any country. He is trying to take care of his family without losing his dog -- I think that's a very noble thing to do. Why do you automatically assume the worst of him?

Seriously, you need to leave the OP alone.

Let's show some compassion!!!

Both the OP and dog are hurting with pain (in different ways). Finding an alternative resource for the anti-biotic is the answer here so LeakySeals can receive some therapy through a positive relationship with animals.

Both LeakySeals and the animal are trying to reach-out to others and support each other. Finding a less expensive source for the Doxycycline or equivalent is the short-term answer.

Go to your local farm supply type store, have a look at what's in the antibiotics available there. Read up on what antibiotics are similar to doxycycline and what the actual dosage is for your dog. You can probably find something that works and $65 will be a lifetime supply!
For example, you can buy enough sheep and goat dewormer to treat like 5000 dogs for heart worm for $100 if you read the labels and figure out the dosages yourself. You have to do your research though, our 140lb dog gets something like 1/20th as much dewormer as a mature goat.

Leaky i am in for $65 cost of the meds if the vet will give the prescription if not i pray others will help out too.

Just PM me with your PayPal No thanks needed.

Normally i would just do this by PM but i would like others to look into their own hearts.
