I guess TDSSKiller.exe didn't kill your computer like it killed mine. It obviously messed mine up good ... might not even be recoverable - who knows?.

Warstud - When you ran TDSSKiller, what kind of infections did it say were found?

Sorry to hear about your computer. I really didn't take note of the infections that were found by TDSSKiller. Wish I could be of more help.

OK, well, that's not good

What version of XP do you have and what brand is your PC? I can probably send you an ISO image for you to burn, since you obviously have Internet access still, so I assume you have multiple PC's.......

Yeah, not good at all ... It's totally dead in the water. I think I have a recovery disc, but haven't had the time to even determine if that might work.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition on a Dell 4400 (yeah, it's kind of old). So what does the ISO image do?

Thanks for any help you can provide OVERKILL !

ISO image is a CD image that you can burn using something like Nero, that will give you a functional bootable OEM copy of Windows that we can perform a repair install from.

Send me a PM.

Not sure what I did to get rid of the virus but I was trying to download Kaspersky and it advised me to remove McAfee..so I did.
But in the process it seems as if my computers running normally again. ..........Nock On Wood!

Still trying to figure out why I'm getting a disk boot error. I made an ISO image bootup CD disk with "SeaTools for DOS" on it so I could diagnose my Seagate hard drive. Had to do an F2 on bootup and set my BIOS settings to tell the computer to boot from the CD-ROM drive 1st. Ran all the HD diagnostic tests, and it showed as passing all tests.

Made an ISO image bootup CD containing Windows XP Recovery Console, and the computer acts like it is booting up from the CD (get expected messages) but then the screen just goes completely black after the first few bootup messages go by. A Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't even work after that ... have to power off and back on to try another reboot.

Very strange ... doesn't make sense that it couldn't bootup from the ISO image Recovery Console CD when it does with the ISO image "SeaTools for DOS" CD.

Here's what I would do:

Install the trial version of Prevx 3.0, which has limited cleaning but is free:

http://www.prevx.com/

The install file for Prevx is only ~800KB and a total system scan averages less than 2 minutes on most computers. Prevx was awarded the Editors' Choice at the pcmag.com site:

http://www.prevx.com/press.asp

Prevx utilizes a mix of cloud and heuristic detection and there are never any virus definition files to download...Ever! As you will see on the Prevx site, they actually encourage you to use other security software in parallel (i.e. Microsoft Security Essentials). Also, if you scroll down to the bottom of the Prevx home page you will see a chart that lists all of the malware that was missed during the last 24-hours, as well as the name of the malware program that missed them!

When my Avira license expired, I decided to use Prevx. Prevx found 2 Trojan Droppers that Avira had missed and removed them. Since then I have run numerous scans with Malwarebytes, SAS and others and have not detected a single infection.

Finally, Prevx offers a 100% virus and malware removal guarantee. This applies even if your computer is infected at the time you purchase a Prevx license.

'Busa, been off-line for a few days, doing a system upgrade (i5) and stuff. I can send you that ISO anytime. Let me know. I replied to your PM.
