I take the truck for a drive let it get to full operating temperature and then come back and let it sit for 5 minutes.

I then open the Fumoto-Valve and get that draining. In the mean time I take the skid plate oil filter access panel off and change the filter.

Once that is done the oil is just dripping from the valve. I close the valve, wipe everything down and put fresh oil in.

I don't see the need to burp it for every bit of oil I can get.

There is better things in life to do, like drinking coffee!

I like the idea of getting the old, dirty oil out before putting the new clean oil in. Why contaminate the new oil? In addition to the tips of draining overnight and bouncing the car, be sure to drain the oil when very warm. I use a straight slot screw driver to push the little button on the oil filter base to get approx one teaspoon of oil out. I put the car on ramps with two different heights to allow a slight tilt to the side where the oil drain plug is. DO NOT run the eingine without oil. I do bump the starter on-off,on-off without starting to get the last drops of oil out. This is not a good idea with some cars because they may lose the prime in the oil pump. Be careful with this last suggestion. AS someone said, you will not get all the oil out, but you will get most of it.
 
Have you torn down and engine? Trust me there is a ton of oil that you aren't getting out so don't waste the time.

Not being a jerk, just saying that it's not worth the time.

There are so many nooks/crannies and areas for oil to collect that it's really doing no good wasting the time for that extra 1/4 quart when there is probably 1/2 quart left all over the engine.

Cutting your OCI by 500 miles does way more good than wasting the time for a bit of oil.

But to each their own...

IMO I wouldn't do this. Alot of oil is going to stay in there reguardless. It's best to not allow the oil pump to loose its prime, then you could be talking more serious issues. Also, its best to start the engine when it's warm to build up OP, a dry start on a warm engine is safer than a cold one... metal is stronger, lower rpms, and a light protective coat on critical components.

What I find interesting is looking at vids on youtube of people doing oil changes (yes when I get really bored) is that they all drain the oil for a long time, reinstall the drain plug, then take the filter off, put a new one on, and refill. They don't realize how much more oil pours out of the pan when the filter gets removed, but they just end up trapping it back in the pan.

just my opinion though..

I don't believe it, if you are changing the oil hot.
I have drained the oil in the Uplander for about 2 mins, at that time the oil is just slowly dripping (drip - - drip- - drip).
I put the drain plug in and went about checking tires, fluid levels etc for 20 mins and removed the plug again, less than an ounce came out .... not worth the time IMHO
 
I've done the overnight trick before, years ago- on the Neon, it got out less than a cupful more than my standard 20-30 minute drain with engine hot. I may even try it on the new 02 Dakota- but only once, for curiousity's sake.

Overnight drain, here I come!
 
I doubt I leave much more during a 5 minute hot drain than overnight. It takes the full 8 Qt to the full mark so whatever is left in the bottles must equal whats left in the engine.
 
This is why I never run an OCI more than 5-6,000 miles.
Let's say 1/2 quart stays in the engine even after letting it drain for hours. You use an expensive extended performance synthetic oil and change it at 15,000 miles. Half a quart stays in the engine until the next OC. That 1/2 quart will now be in there for 30,000 mi. You say, it's only 1/2 qt., but you would never purposely put 1/2 qt. of dirty oil in your car.

Also seeing as the majority of vehicles on the road go to a quick lube place to have their oil changed with, in most cases, questionable bulk oil that probably is the wrong weight or specification, and in most cases combined with a poor quality filter, and installed by impatient people who probably never wait for the stream to end from your oil pan but rather put the plug back in when 95% of the oil has come out and considering that the average consumer never changes their oil on-time like us anal-retentive people here on BITOG don't you think it's over kill to worry about that extra little bit when those other vehicles seem to have a normal life anyways?

In my case i could hop in one of many other cars or trucks that we own.

Definitely a good reason not to change the oil in all THREE vehicles at once, even if I had that many jackstands and drain pans. Sure I have two drain pans and four jackstands, but I'll do the vehicles one at a time. Oh, and I'm not allowed to perform mechanical work on the wife's Durango. She's still perfectly happy with her most logical "If something goes wrong, I wish to strangle someone I am not in love with" argument. And so am I. So technically, I could change the oil in the Ford and the Olds and be fine if we had to go somewhere right away because the Durango would be sitting there ready to go.
