Are the lug nuts all threaded correctly, and are they all tightened down to the 100 ft/lbs that most GM vehicles specify?

Yup, all tight.

Ahh....you're running them at 57 psi when the max suggested pressure is 44 psi? You may be asking for trouble here.

I had a set of the Continental Extreme winter Contact installed on my Honda after getting caught in 2 early snow falls...the latest being a near whiteout driving to an appointment 3 hours away (with the warm temps it was gone the next day). The Bridgestone RE960's that were on the car actually acquitted themselves quite well as far as snow traction but I couldn't stop or turn AT ALL...a little scary. I've had these sitting in the garage (waiting until I "needed" them) and after that last experience finally had them mounted. First of all, they need a few hundred miles to break-in...dry handling improves a LOT after you get some mileage on them. Although I haven't had any snow to try them out since they were installed (of course), I'm amazed how well they handle on dry roads and how quiet they are...especially for a winter tire. I have to say I'm pleased with my choice (next would have been the General Altimax Arctic but they are supposed to be rather noisy and "squishier" with their "Q" speed rating...Continentals have a "T" rating...Altimax are unbeatable in the white and icy stuff though from what I read). I may regret saying this but I'm anxious to try them out in the snow...around here I'm sure my wish will be granted soon enough.

Maybe. Since the added psi didn't really help matters much I'm dropping them back down to 44psi to be safe.

Unfortunately, with such tall, soft, and siped tread blocks, you could put 100psi in each tire and they would still feel like marshmallows. It's the tread, not the carcass that's the issue.

They may feel terrible in the dry, but that's what will make them work like magic in the snow.

You can't expect winter tires to feel firm like all season's or summer's. I have a new set of Nokian's on The Forester and they are a bit squirmy on cornering, but I accept that as their nature and don't push it in corners anyhow. Waiting for some decent snows this winter to test out the combo of Subaru AWD and Nokian's. I have high hopes.

I agree that they will probly grip like an ape when the snow comes. I'm certainly not new to winter tires, I've lived in PA and NY all my life - we get snow and lots of it. I've always had winter tires on all my vehicles. I've even run snow tires all yr long on my old subie for years w/o problems. The problem is THIS particular set of tires. To help describe how they feel imagine your tires are half inflated while driving on a freshly graveled dirt road. Basically driving on ball bearings with flat tires. Biggest waste of $ I've ever spent on tires. Don't believe all the tire reviews on Tire Rack or Discount Tire. I wrote one up for this tire but not sure if they posted it...it wasn't a good one.

Why are they a waste of money? You bought a set of excellent studdless ice and snow tires. They are extremely soft and squirmy in order to make them perform in the snow and ice, not in the dry which is all you've used them on. Your expectations are way off and your criticisms at Tire Rack or Discount Tire are the reason why so many of the reviews there are worthless.

"Don't believe all the tire reviews on Tire Rack or Discount Tire."

Yeah, thanks for the warning!

One of the reasons I bought these tires was by reading the reviews of them on Tire Rack. Many of the reviews said they were the best snow tires in the dry and that they handled great in the dry. So I expected them to handle well. I urge U to read them all for yourself. I'm not on here to blow smoke up anyone's arse just telling you my experience with this particular tire on my car was a waste of my money. Believe it or not, like it or not, my review is spot on!

Just to get this straight… You buy SNOW tires and hate them because they don’t feel good on dry pavement? A little premature on your review?

Snow tires are soft… My General Altimax feel real weird on dry pavement, but you get used to them. When the snow flies, you will see how impressive they can be.

I just think it is silly you hate them so much when you NEVER drove them on snow yet. Kind of weird. You should of left your all-seasons on longer until temps were lower constantly and snow was flying.

Yeah. After reading those reviews (all of them)I expected too much from this tire. You are right, I should have left the CS4s on longer. I can't wait for snow to try them out! Just got a new plow put on my truck today to. I'm not getting ready for winter anymore, I'm ready to kick its arse!

The tread will firm up slightly from break in ~~300-500miles
also they are amazingly better once it says under 40F

I ran those tires for 3 years and they are NOT as squirmy as many others ie yoko ig-20s etc.

I would have bought them again in a heartbeat but they didnt make them in my size this year?>??? whats up with that continential?
And If I bought the suv version they were 20$ more than blizzack ws-70's

The snow traction on the conti ewc was amazing even noticeably better than yoko ig-20's

Have you noticed any improvement recently? and Please report back once they are on snow.

Got into the teens last night. The ride was a bit firmer today driving to the mall. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Just wait until you have to drive in snow covered freeways! I got my snow tires for the first time last winter and was blown away by them. I will never go without them ever again... The difference is night and day with any other tire. So much traction, control and peace of mind as well. Got my girlfriend a set shortly after for her car... She loves them just as much as I love mine (General Altimax Arctic). After a season tread depth is basically unchanged. I should get 4 or 5 winters from them.
