I'll keep it short I got an 2015 WRX and bought an aftermarket Jpipe (downpipe) for my car and it's catless. For the price I paid I was fine with the catless as much intention was to put on a cat myself. I contacted my tuner and they recommend a GESI cat. Holy crap they are expensive! From what I understand most cats are all the same core with new names stamped on the shell. Are the GESI cats really that much better that a "normal" cat?

I would sell the catless pipe and buy a high-flow catted one.

The bottom line is this: physically smaller converters with less volume (internal surface area) will not burn as clean.,,, cars that need sniffer tests, it may be more difficult to pass with a metallic cat

Oh, and do not drive with this mod installed until you have a tune, even if it's a prelim tune.
Off-the-shelf (e.g., Cobb Stage 2) tunes are not adequate and you risk over-boosting with an inadequate or no tune. You risk boost-creep, regardless, without any cats at all.
Finally, what was your plan for adding a cat? Cutting some length of mid-pipe and installing it there? I would say that that's a very poor plan. Either run catless and [censored] the rest of us off with your stupidly stinky exhaust or get rid of your catless J-pipe and install high-flow-cats.
If you're short on money, then you can always re-enlist, right!?

Okay how do you know I'm "junior" and enlisted aside from me needing to update my profile.
I'll be doing a Bren tune, they reccommend not running catless and installing a GESI cat. I only paid 100 for a grimmspeed catless Jpipe. My intention was to flip it and turn a profit or install a quality cat where most companies install theirs. I won't be doing it myself I'll take it to a local shop that is well known around here.
