I have read the same thing about the Kumho Solus KR-21's, 1/2 the rated mileage but, that's about the only bad thing that I have read. Although there are always going to be those who just didn't have good luck with them and that's the way it is with product. The reviews on the KR-21's are quite good.
I know that Im jumping in this conversation kind of late. In my opinion mjoekingz28, the 3 tires you mentioned at the start of your post are all decent tires and very comparable in terms of quality, price, performance etc. One of them will do something better than the other two but, each will excell in a particular area. I look for tires that excell in the areas that I find that I need most. I have a criteria. I know that most tires are fine on dry road, OK? Im looking for tires that meet my driving style and climate.
Im looking for tires that are good in the snow/ice/wet, track nicely on the highway, balance well, and of course...smooth/quiet and last close to their rated miles.
Dry road handling/cornering is a low priority with me as I think a most tires can do this decently. If I want more handling, I'll move up to a higher speed rating but usually "T" rated tires are fine enough for me.
Pirelli P4, Yokohama Avid TRZ, Hankook Optimo H727, Kumho Solus KR-21 and a couple of others are some of the highest standard touring tires available in a variety of speed rating and sizes. These are the types of tires for me
