Hey I had a thread going about Primewells and was persuaded against them. Now, with much recommendation from here I got three deals cooking.

BFG Touring TA Pro Series H
$385
http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/overview/...V&WT.si_x=6
60,000 mile warranty

Kumho Solus KH 16
$364
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Kumho&tireModel=Solus+KH16
60,000 mile warranty

General Altimax HP
$384
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Altimax+HP
55,000 mile warranty

All are local, balanced, mounted OTD pricing. Should I flip a coin?
I'm down south and it rarely snows and never ices, so that criteria isnt important. Dry and Wet handling are at the top of my list.

BFG first
General second
(Although you probably couldn't go too far wrong with any of the three.)

Kumho.

Had a set of BFG Touring that were on the wife's new vehicle when she bought it. Tires were rotated every 5 or 6 thousand miles and front end was in line. Air pressure was checked often.

They lasted just under 20,000 miles before needing replacement.

Should add that I have had four sets of the BFG's. Lowest mileage I ever got out of any of them was 70K with 1 set hitting 79K. Have two of the Generals right now and have almost 50K on them. Still have good tread.

Yeah, BFG has some of the worst treadlife in the industry. I'd go Kumho out of these choices. It will last longer and you'll have a little extra in your wallet.

Kumho has lousy treadlife-I just had a Power Star 758 that started losing the casing @ 30K-always rotated, never ran low on air, and had a set of Road Venture A/Ts on the co. van that were worn bald @ under 40K, the BFGs I've had have always lasted a long time (usually 55K plus).

I have the General Altimax HP on My Olds Alero & so far no complaints here.Excellent traction in Rain & Snow and the cornering traction is the best out of any tire I have ever owned.

General Altimax HP - #2 in its category on tire rack, and affordable.

GREAT wet/rainy weather performance, and even in light snow - My wife's 2003 Ealantra has them, and she LOVES them.
It feels so stable, in rainy weather, and feels like I am driving on dry roads - has NEVER hydroplaned, even at challenging speeds.
great handling, quiet, and smooth ride, and it even looks great.

Isn't it funny that for any given tire that is reviewed, there are always reviews from both ends of the spectrum? (the same tire is one person's best and another's worst)

I, too, considered those tires when I purchased mine. I have one small suggestion: if you are considering the Kumho: unless you really want/need an "H" rated tire, consider the Humho KR 16 instead - it has substantially longer treadwear rating.

what type of driving? what type of car? and do you care where the tires are manufactured?

I've had two sets of Kumho's (in my experience a very good tire); a set of Goodyear Vectors that look very similar to the Generals (great traction, only fair cornering, 90k mile life); and multiple sets of BFG's

I got the Uniroyal Tiger Paw touring 70k tire today.

Man, they tried to pry off my hub cover when you just unscrew the plastic lugs, the pressure were about 8psi too high and the lugs were not tightened evenly. At least they didnt over tighten them. Dude backed up and hit the curb when bringing the car around.

I went against my instinct and let them do it, but will just take the tires in next time. I'll most likely get the KR22 100k mile tire next time. Nobody had them in stock around here and I dont know if they'll be a flop like the KR21.

+1 Ditto! Have had a set of General AltaMax HP's on my Ford Focus for some time now...and love them.

They are a great tire for the money..... Purchased them at TireRack and was blown away with their service and their prices.

LOL, you didn't even list Uniroyal's as a potential option? I'm sure everyone that took the time to chime in and give their opinions say "your welcome".
