I haven't been following this site closely so am not aware of the latest consensus on various 0W20 oils. In my area, the only 0W20 synthetics I see on sale every now and then are Quaker State and Castrol Edge (black bottle). At the present time, the 0W20 Castrol is on sale and I would like to know what the general consensus is on this oil.

The SM formula of Gold Bottle 0W20 Edge was better, according to many of the members here.

I really like the Edge line and think it's top notch. The only thing I don't care too much for among the 0w20 Edge/EP oils is the NOACK. It's 13.3% for the Castrol EDGE Extended Performance and 12.7% for the regular Edge. For comparison sake, Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 is 10% and so is AFE 0w20.

I'm running M1 in the forester and it eats EP 0w20** it as fast as bargain brand oils. Likely a hungry PCV gobbling up oil mist. Or ? low ring tension and shorty slipper skirted pistons.
Be interested to see how she fares on the second sump of EP.

**Note this car has a class action for oil consumption.

Have you tried AFE 0W30 in it?

The lowest consumption among all 0w20's I've used has been with Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 and AFE. Zero oil loss with EP 0w20 at 8k mile OCI's in the Mazda.

ARCO, in your case it's an engine issue. Low tension rings in Subies can be bad. Give it more time though in case it has something to do with switching brands from what you were using to M1. The M1 is 70% PAO and has the lowest NOACK among all 0w20's.

It is a fine oil
