General Altimax RT43 price.

Just picked up two of these this AM on an east side Wally World for $75 each in 205-50-17 for the Mazda3

Looks like I'm on the replace two every two years or so pattern as this is how the tires on this car I acquired used were previously worn.

I was pleasantly surprised the sorta no-name Atlas tires (I'm sure Chinese tire maker bought the rights to the former Amoco name) wore for the approximately 40k I drove on them.

But winter was coming and it seemed a good time to replace those two before the snow flies.

Thanks for this thread...

Wally World only. Working well for me. Probably better price point than the RT43 although I bought them last year and haven't priced lately.

They were in size 185/65-14 and I paid $62 per tire (before shipping) when bought them from TireRack.
The tires looked nice but just didn't have good traction in wet and cornering was at times scary. Snow traction was simply missing.
The tire compound may have improved since then and it could be a better tire now, but back then I had unpleasant experience.

I think I've been using them that long, but have not had negative experiences. What are you comparing against?

I had BStone Potenza G009 on before then.

bought the General Altimax RT43s for my sister's Corolla...the two top listed tires on tire rack that were actually tested were the Generals and a Michelin Defender...the Generals and Michelins were nearly equal and the Generals were about $100 plus less expensive so I went with them...according to my brief drive but my sister's remarks after nearly a year and all 4 seasons here in ChicagoLand are that the Generals were a good purchase...

If you have Discount Tire Direct purchasing ability near you, they should be running a Black Friday sale soon...the rebates can be huge...

Good luck with your choice

Bill

When looking at tires you also have to look at tire life. The RT43 maybe more expensive, but what is the cost per mile? The latest edition of consumer reports has a pretty comprehensive tire guide with independent testing.
