Generac OCI observations

No way am i running a 5w-20 in an air-cooled engine.
Well... It is what the manual calls for. The Generac 22kW to 26kW maintenance kit's comes with 5W20 Generac synthetic oil as well.
Changing viscosity can void the warranty. Mine is two years old (needing maintenance now) with a seven year factory warranty. I'd hate to void it by not going with the recommended oil weight.

It is strange how the smaller kW units call for 5W30 oil...

Buy the generac oil , keep the receipt and run what oil you want in it.

Fwiw I don't think the weekly 5 minute exercise run is sufficient; first day of every quarter I manually flip the transfer switch to power the house with the genset for an hour or so.
24kW, Mobil 1 0w40.

Source on changing the oil voiding the warranty? Never heard that with Generac

This milky used oil was after one year and about 35 hours runtime. It's what I try to avoid now:

New to the forums. I've been working on the Generac's liquid and air cooled models for 28 years now in Florida. I also noticed the milky oil in 2015 when they added the Evo controllers. Synergy models are famous for it and they were quickly discontinued. It has a variable speed motor that is a nightmare to diagnose and stop random alarms. I started paying attention to all the settings. I service around 1200 units a year. Noticed that every time i saw milky oil the test was in quiet mode which is a lower rpm and in the morning. It gets pretty foggy here in the morning as i live in the swamp not on the beach. I changed those settings and it is now a requirement on all services to check the settings and place the run time to after noon and put "no" on the quiet test.

Got lazy this year and didn't do any manual runs but a few hours here and there when there were outages, and just recently changed the oil. Very low hours on the oil but over a year old

Came out looking brand new in this unit! Exercise time is 12 mins at full speed (1800)

U got a liquid cooled. I was responding to the guy who posted an air cooled with milky oil photo.
