I got a prompt to complete the Generac Schedule A service due to the generator having been in service for 2 years. The runtime is only 19 hours, and the Generac documentation indicates that synthetic oil should never be used before 25 hours has been reached. The documentation doesn't really address this situation. Reading through the lines, I think the thing to do is to do the oil change with 5W30 conventional oil, and save the synthetic oil for when the runtime hits 25 hours. Is that the correct thing to do?

I have a newer 18kw and did the first change at five hours, installed a TG4386 and replaced the oil with Valvoline 5w30 daily protection which has a HTHS of 3.3 to continue break-in.

After 25-30 hours I’ll switch to full synthetic.

Agree with everyone else. I used conventional and changed it every year on my Generac propane powered 20kw but now I use full syn and a Luberfiner filter. Don't forget to adjust your valve clearance once your motor is broken in. I had a tight exhaust valve on mine after about 50 hours. I adjusted it once and it's been ok since.
