2011 27KW Generac (mitsubishi 4 banger)
in service 4 years, 300 hours
(Previous employer’s CEO, still calls me for any maintenance because he doesn’t trust anyone)
generator dealer was supposed to be changing oil yearly but they failed to do so as they actually dated and marked hours on this filter lol. needless to say they are fired. the Nitrile ADBV was stuff as a rock. this generator just ran 7 days straight following berryl.

changed the battery, air filter and spark plugs aswell. can you believe they spec copper plugs for these? if anyone has the iridium part number please share and i will go put them in and never worry about it again.

out/off: generac filter and unknown oil. it was so thick it took 2 hours to drain.

in/on: 5 quarts M1 FS 0w-40 with Carquest premium 84356.

 ... why is the oil so clean? Runs on propane ?

i figured it was some sort of chemical issue. it has M1 0w-40 in it now and i will continue with that yearly for him. my grandparents are still on the general maintenance plan…. i need to try to get them to cancel that and let me do it. it’s like $25 to service that engine versus whatever they pay for the subscription. 0w-40 + a carquest premium filter has to be better than whatever they spin on.

Just a reminder for anyone deciding to takeover servicing their own standby generator….be sure to remove the starter fuse and/or unplug the spark plug wires. (the manual should have directions how best to disable it) The last thing you want is to have the generator kick into service/test mode while the oil is draining….and you’re sipping a beer in the hot tub a 100 feet away :>\
