My '95 Fiat Coupe turbo lost 2nd gear. The gear has actually split in 2 where the sliding hub connects. There is no apparent damage to the gearbox, I just need to replace the gear.
The picture does not really show it but the oil is very "brown", it's like a dirt colour. There is also a brown slime over all the internals. It just wipes off but I'm wondering what it is and if it is normal? The oil up close looks clean.
The oil in it was Fuchs Titan gear 75w90. Shift Quality is not great. The manual calls for Tutela ZC80s which is a GL-4 80w (is that 80w90?). Shift quality is also not great with this fluid. I have found using Tutela ZC75 synthetic gives a very nice shift and I've run it in some other turbo cars' gearboxes. This is however a semi synthetictic GL5 75w80. Is it OK to use a 75w80 GL5 when the manual specifys 80w GL4? This oil is the oe oil for FWD V6 Alfa Romeos from about 2000 on.
Any suggestions on what to use? I need 2.4L so I dont want to to buy a 4L or gallon jug. I can't get Tutela easily anymore so I need a suitable replacement. Something like Redline is hugely expensive here.
Australian brands come in convenient 2.5L bottles which works out cost effective but I have no idea how good they are.

Penrite SIN gear GL-5 75w90 Full Synthetic $55/2.5L
I would really like to stick to the 75w80 if possible for the shift performance.
