Hello all!

I have an Opel/Vauxhall Vivaro 2.0 with a PF6 gearbox (type M73, 6-speed manual transmission), and I am wondering what the best gearbox oil is?

I believe it was the Elf Tranself NFP 75w80 for PK6 gearboxes (this oil had a cSt of 7.5 and API GL-4), but it is not clear to me whether this is also factory recommended for the PF6 ...? The NFP has now been succeeded by the NFX oil, which has an sCt of 6.5 and is therefore slightly thinner.

I'm leaning towards taking the Elf Transself NFX 75w80 for the PF6 gearbox, but I'm curious if you have any other opinions about that?
The viscosity of the NFX is lower compared to many modern 75W-80 gearbox oils, which easily have an sCt of 8 to 9, and I wonder whether that can be beneficial for an older gearbox or not (has run 260,000 km)?

During the last change of the gear oil (replaced the clutch), the garage used GL-5 oil with an sCt of 9.23 (CHAMPION LIFE EXTENSION75W80 GL 5), now after 60,000 km the clutch stutters regularly when driving away and I have the feeling that isdue to the wrong oil, and I also occasionally experience that I don't shift gears properly and the teeth are brushed.

For any detective work, my VIN is W0LF7B1BEDV614660

Engine number is M9R-692

Year of construction 2013

Unless there's a leak on the primary shaft seal, the GL-5 oil will not affect clutch operation, but the harsher shifting can be. But it seems more likely the clutch is getting worn, one of the symptoms is not being able to declutch properly (the release bearing needs to travel further from clutched to declutched).

The clutch has been replaced 60.000km ago (at 200.000km, clock is now at 260.000), along with the gearbox oil...the stutter from the clutch I sometimes get when driving away will probably have nothing to do with the gearbox oil indeed and needs to be adressed seperately.

Anyone any opinion on the best gearbox oil for this van?

Do you know what is the factory recommendation? If it's 75W80, i would not see a problem using that oil, but maybe it's better to go with 75W85, i think Total and Motul has some in that flavour. But, yes, use GL-4 and not GL-5 or the dual rated GL-4/GL-5
