We purchased GE profile appliances about 8 years ago to date all four have broken. The diswasher wont drain water. the refrigerator defroster broke last year. Now refrig is too cold. The magnatron on the microwave quit. And our range the ignitor failed for oven which is the on issue which I can understand. I am sick of giving GE more of my money. Thinking of replacing anyone have good luck with another brand. Thinking of LG. Any thought welcome

We've always had whirlpool appliances. Parents bought new all new appliances in 2003 and they are all still working with no problems. I have Frigidaire appliances that came with the house and so far so good.

I've had GE in the past, the old ones were good, but not any more.

When we redid the kitchen we used Frigidaire for everything. No problems so far.

I know the fridge has a Samsung compressor as do many other brands.

We bought a GE front loading washer 3.5 years ago and it is GONE!!! Leaked incessantly from the front door seal which was replaced twice. When they hauled it away, it was leaking like a sieve yet again. Replaced it with a Whirlpool which is what we had used for several decades until we were tlked into a GE. I'll stay with Whirlpool and Myatag, thank you!!

It pays to do your research. Each brand seems to have its strong and weak products these days. Blindly buying all of brand X, Y, or Z will likely lead to frustration. I learned this while selling appliances years ago.

Also, don't be tempted to buy the high-end stuff just because you can afford it. Often times it's the models just above the bottom-end that are most reliable. Why? Because they're simple. They reuse a proven design because it saves money and they don't have to impress customers with something new and fancy.

Our last GE Profile oven/range was 20 years old when the display finally conked out.

We replaced it with a highly-rated GE Profile model last year and it seems fine.

Pays to do research. I highly doubt that brand A is fundamentally better than brand B, I think each has good and bad models.

We run through Bosch dishwashers like they're disposable, despite our earlier ones being very expensive (before Bosch was available everywhere).

Our LG refrigerator has a noisy compressor and is under 2 years old. The weatherstripping on the door is beginning to tear simply from the suction of opening the door.

Yep.

Many of the big appliance companies may have someone else build it for them, which can be a good or a bad thing. Kenmore, for example (the Sears brand), uses a variety of manufacturers even within the refrigerator line: some are GE, some Whirlpool, etc. Even the Kenmore Elite line uses different manufacturers depending on the specific model...some are top-notch, others are [censored].

My experience as well, especially with refridgerators. Some sears kenmores are whirlpool, but some are GE.

Our family have had nothing but good experience with GE Profile appliances (note "Profile" line of appliances are GE's top of the line products), other notable mention would be Kenmore "Elite" made by Electrolux. Even if there were any issues we always purchase extended warranty so that pretty much takes care for the most part.

And I agree with the cchase takes on this....

Every manufacturer has a problem with ice makers. I don't think LG has been importing ranges for 8 years...I think it was about 2007 when I first started selling them.

10 years is a normal life for major appliances now. Your microwave was built by LG as GE hasn't made their own for years. Fix the igniter and keep it going for another 5 years... GE is as good as cooking gets.

Going with another brand will not get you more reliability..it's a *rapshoot. Pick which one that has what you want for a fair price and don't expect the manufacturer to back it up. And don't think the "luxury" appliances are any better for reliability...kind of like cars.

LG is great at laundry, good at fridges and cooking, ok at dish and makes a lot of microwaves cheap. 11 years is what their engineers shoot for.

That was an estimate on age.

everything i have from GE is JUNK the good news is a friend fixes them for a living and he fixes them for free
I just got a new frigidaire freezer because i got a good deal lets see how that works.. I wont buy anything GE
I will continue buying GE as long as my friend and his son fixes them but if they ever stop fixing them i will never buy a GE again

For household appliances I find Consumer Reports to be a great resource. For over 30 years, and several homes, I haven't bought a single lemon following their recommendations. They buy everything from retail outlets and do all the testing for you. And most public libraries have a year or two of back issues on hand. You can't go wrong.

Excellent advice. The contracts often cover preventative/routine maintenance you'd otherwise have to do yourself. The prices are pretty good (or at least they were when I used to sell them).

I have a GE range from the early 1950s, works perfect.

Our refrigerator, from 2006, went through a control board (replaced under GE self-extended warranty) and a couple other things that were a major hassle.

We never have power surges or spikes, so it seems that it is a quality issue...

Kitchen appliances are not what they used to be.
Even 20 years ago they were built to far higher standards.
