GC -> Porsche?

Craig, I was always filling up with Chevron 93 which has a good dose of Techron. I do have reason to believe it could have been contributing to the lead wear, so now I am using Shell V-Power 93.

The lead wear did go down though when I used Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w-40, so the extra thickness helped. I would love to use GC, or maybe the newer 30w's available from VW, especially the LL 5w30.

Not only that, but Porsche recently stated in Panorama that Mobil 1 0W40 is still the factory fill. I cant recall when, I'm always way behind in my reading. The viscosity specs for 0W40 are almost identical to other 5W40s - e.g.: just as thick at 40deg as 5W competitors (cSt = ~15 @ 40 C). I cant comment on additives nor on thinning over time

IIRC Mobil 1 0W40 is 14/80 cSt. In my BMW it started out just above 14 and sheared well into the 13s in just 6000km. GC started thicker than where Mobil 1 0W40 finished and thickened slightly.

My BMW is a 528i - not driven nearly the way I drove my Porsche and it still sheared (just) out of grade

That's one of the reasons I might look at something other than Mobil 1 0W40 if I still had it...

I just talked to an inside guy at Mobil 1 and he assured me that there was only one version of the 0w-40. He seemed believable so I guess their's nothing to worry about...
