Similar to the other post on Brad Penn, this is from vw vortex. The poster said he does lots of idling and idles to warm up. Can you tell (kidding!)? Wow!

That is what happens with the VW/Audi DI engines. Thus the need for lubricants that hold up to it better, perhaps RLI.

Well that was actually mine LOL. Few more details regarding this

1) Waited 30 seconds to warm up...then drove off gently every morning
2) 500 miles every other weekend
3) I did idle about 30 minutes to 1 hour every week (when the engine is hot...) - job entails some idling...

just a FYI

Thanks for your welcome. I was very careful of this, so basically I had a 300 mile drive, came home, let the engine cool down (2-3 hours), and then took the sample, so there shouldn't have been excess fuel. I was blown away by the 2.0% fuel content in that regard.

One thing that has been thrown around at Vortex between Saaber and I was that I did use a good half a bottle of Redline SI1 fuel injector cleaner (40% PEA) that apparently survives combustion. Saaber did notice a slight dip in flashpoint when he used it too....maybe that had something to do with it...

Wow, that is surprising there was so much fuel after driving 300 miles. I don't know if Sl1 is to blame but you could test the theory by not using it and doing another UOA on GC. I hope it's not true because that would be a significant negative side-effect of the additive. Aside from the possible effect on a UOA, that would warrant using the additive up right before the oil change.

Yep - that's what I'm doing right now. I just did a oil + filter change, and even made the mechanic ,with the drain plug off, dump an extra L of GC just to try and get the residuals out.

In my opinion, I do believe Redline would cause this...as it clearly says the additives survive combustion, go back as blowby over the intake valves and cleans it.

In that case, since it's a DI engine, I would hazard a guess to say a good deal gets washed down past the cylinder rings, and even in highway driving, doesn't get burned off...just my $0.02.

For the next 3000 miles (yes I do my oil changes every 3000 miles...) I'm going to try to never idle more than 60 seconds...and be a stickler. I'm hoping it'll be night and day...

I bet the change in idling will make big difference. Most GC UOAs on this engine show 13-18% shear in 3k-4k miles as I recall which is good for a 502 oil. I bet yours will be in that range.

I think it's safe to say these 2.0 FSI engines always have loads of active additive yet, but they get sheared down to water quickly....

I recently used some RL SI-1 as well. I planned to run the oil to 6k, but now I'm thinking I should sample at 5k. Fuel's not as big of a concern in my case though.

I just sent in a new oil analysis. This is over the hot summer months, still quite a bit of idling, and lots of redline runs.

This is a combination of 50% highway, 50% city. Again, hard engine runs (also I moved so I did use the car for some long distance hauling - whatever little you can do in an A4)
