Is the german castrol 0w30 considered compatible with my warranty which calls for 5w30 oil? I understand that while being a 0 weight, it meets the viscosity requirements of 5w30.

Burden is on the mfg to prove the oil caused the problem. oem UOAs are common with failed engines, but there is nothing specifi about GC on an elemental or physical level that would cause a red flag. It's a thick 30 weight oil that meats API specs. That's all the oems require, a recent API spec.

The Mobil One OW-30 in my garage says that it meets or exceeds all manufacturer warranty requirements for 5w30 oils right on the label!

It also says it meets 10w30 requirements for GM, Ford and Chrysler.

There is a section in the manual on many GMs that need 5w30 that clearly says that 0w30 may be used if it is going to be cold for an extended period time. This is clearly specified especially if the temperatures is going to get to -20F or lower.
