Whenever someone asks about the "best" serpentine belt, you always get the standard opinions: OEM, Gates, Dayco, Goodyear, in no particular order. The Gatorback seems to be the one with most love/hate comments, FYI, and I usually use Gates.

Because no one in my town seems to stock Escort belts (odd, I know), I always end up with a Gatorback from Autozone.

The last one cost about $25. This time, $18. The difference?? It seems like the Gatorback no longer carries a lifetime warranty.

Just passing on useless info. I wonder why the change?? Too many free replacements or the marketing gimmick didn't work?

Usually I lose the receipt by the time I need to replace the belts again.

How often are you replacing your belts?

I ask as I did a water pump on a '91 Chrysler with 160,000 miles. The original MOPAR belt still looked fine.

I did replace it with a Gatorback though.

I usually replace them within a year of the first cracks showing up. Usually between 60 and 100K. Maybe every 4 - 5 years, more or less. Today's belts and hoses are really great.

In this case, my grown up kids had two different Escorts at the same time. One was sold this past summer (first Gatorback).

Good chat'n with you Critic. Hope your having a nice break from classes.
