The local price for gas went up 45 cents a gallon last night. When I got off work at 5pm, gas was $2.14. When I came home from the farm at around 8:30pm, the price at the same stations was $2.59. One station actually increased their price by 55 cents a gallon, to $2.69.

I'm still trying to figure out where the refinery that blew up is located.

And no, this stunt is not unusual. Unfortunately, it happens all the time in this area.

The Illinois market is local, and supply is severely constrained by refinery capacity, as well as oxygenation requirements.

Those two factors cause gasoline prices to fluctuate without correlation to either oil prices or other U.S. Market areas...

It could be worse...

+1
Yep....you're in Ill. after all. On the other hand, you can probably buy 100% gas whereas I can't.

$2.24 here, drive 20 miles and it WAS $2.04, it rose to $2.21 today.

In Illinois, you will notice 20 cents difference in 20 miles. Certain towns lean on the high side, some towns drop prices fast.

and outlying areas of the bigger towns just add a cent or two based on the larger towns price.

100% gasoline is 80 cents higher than E10-87, Perimium is usually 30/35 cents higher than 87-E10.

Crazy.

I've been buying for $1.81. Top tier too.

In Southern California gas price can be different of 20-30 cents in less than 10 miles, even Costco stations in Orange County can have a different of 40 cents or more in 20 miles. As of now Costco price is $2.6x and name brand top tier is more than $3.0. The only silver lining is premium is only 20 cents more than regular at most stations.

I found that the highest prices are in rundown neighborhoods and in most expensive beach cities.
