I have about 20-30 gal of gas from last year remaining in my boat that and I am not planning to use the boat this year. The gas has been treated. Should i try to empty it? if so how? Or will it be OK next year? thanks

20 or 30 gallons out of what total? If the tank is a 100 gallon tank and your 30 gallon is treated with staybil then I think your OK. Just top it off next year and go. Ed

Would it be possible to hook up a water hose for cooling, add a gallon or two of fresh gas, and let some of that old gas burn off at idle? Old gas is one thing. Crazy old gas is even one-er.

We need to know:

1) How old is the gas within a month. "Last Year" is too wide of bandwidth.

2) What stabilizer was used within what timeframe after the gas went in the boat tank.

3) Was there old gas in the tank before that gas and was the previous gas treated or not.

4) What amount of stabilizer was used? Per the bottle, less or more?

Then we can give some good advice.

drain it and use it in car?

I treated with marine stabil per the stabil recommendation. I also added a can of Sea Form in the fall of last year. Gas was purchase in about 6gal increments in the spring of last year.

I love Seafoam but it is only adequate at best for treating fuel, and especially E10, for long term storage. Marine Stabil is better and IMO Startron is even better yet. I only use Startron to treat my fuel.

I see you are from MA so like me( here in NH )you have E10. E10 untreated only has a 90 day shelf life. Treated it is only a year and that is pushing it IMO. Ethanol blended gas just plain sucks and especially for boats.

IMO get all of that gas out and either dispose of it properly or use it up( a bit here and a bit there not all at once )in your lawn mower, car, etc... Even if you retreat I would not want it sitting until next year. I am curious if after treating the fuel you ran your engine so that treated fuel was transfered through out your fuel system? I would assume so based on you saying you followed the directions on the Stabil which as I recall does say to run the engine for a while. If not you have a serious possibility of a gummed up and fouled out carb/FI and fuel system.

Friends boat wound up in the shop for almost this EXACT scenario. It sat for approx 20 months( guys wife died and it was her boat - he couldn't bring himself to use it at 1st )and was even double dosed with treatment as you ask about. The engine was never run with the treatment in the fuel however despite me telling him to do so. The gas still went bad in the tank( grew a nasty reddish algea like stuff )despite the treatment and his lines and carb were trashed after letting the untreated fuel sit there all that time. Had to have it all flushed and then the lines replaced and the carb rebuilt.

JMHO but you need to get that gas out of there and then talk to a marina about how to properly store your boat long term if the boat will sit for a year or more on a regular basis. In that scenario with E10 gas you really need to drain your carb( if equipped ) plus the lines, and tank. Hopefully you ran the boat after treating the fuel for storage so you have treated fuel in the fuel system? If not you definitely need to go try and start it and see if you can get it running? If so let it run for a while.

Personally I would get all of that old gas out and deal with it as talked about above. Then I would add say 5-10 gallons of fresh gas treated with Startron and OMC 2+4 fuel conditioner( works like a FIC too ). I would attempt to get the engine started and then run the boat long enough for a couple gallons of the new gas to work through. This should help clean your fuel system and it will leave treated gas in it at the same time.

I would never let it sit longer than a year. If I was going to do that it would be left sitting dry( i.e. no fuel anywhere ).

JMHO.

If you have even treated E10 you need to get it OUT of there-can you siphon it out? You would be better off leaving the fuel system totally empty (or as empty as possible), then refilling and treating next year when you're going to use the boat again. This is Exhibit A on why gasohol is a bad idea, and the higher the concentration & the longer the storage time combined with high humidity makes it even worse.

1986 Wellcraft V20 with 1986 Yamaha 150hp outboard with 915hrs. Brought it used with 905hrs 3 years ago. Not much use in past 3 years. Have a busy work schedule. Thinking of selling it next year.

Those old 2 strokes dont take kindly to old fuel or ethanal. Definitely drain the tank and refill with quality fuel and marine grade stabil. Maybe even decarb with seafoam too.

The last trip of the year I fill with straight premium,no ethanol, and stabilize it. It gets winterized with pure premium and in the spring I transfer a good portion of it into my pickup. They are turning gasoline in to flammable [censored] for political purposes and boaters are the ones who suffer.

You need to start using it. Either sell the boat, use it, or siphon the gas out for your car or something.

E10 doesn't store.
