gas prices - hold onto your hat!

In my area, where regular is 85 octane, you would not believe how much detonation I've been hearing lately from cars that require premium or at least 87 octane, mostly when the afternoon temps are soaring. Some of them sound down right damaging. I'm gonna try 85 octane in my car and see how it does; I don't get any ping on 87 so slight ping on hills when the A/C is cranked won't hurt a thing hopefully.

The silly thing about that is, now is the most economical time for premium gas. At least around here, there is always a $.20 differential between reg and prem.
If I remember what I calculated, it was maybe $12/mo savings if we ran mid instead of premium in GTP. It is still the same differential now. Not worth the risk.

Thanks for the $50 clarification. Glad I don't own a Hummer. I'd have to swipe my card 3 times

speaking of which, drove past a Hummer dealer between Galvston and Houston the other day. Lot is full of new Hummers, not a customer in sight.

Even the H3 may not be able to salvage this one.

Way to go, keith and Al

No good can come with governmental interference.

As has been mentioned many times, refined products are a historically undervalued resource (thanks to governmental interference). Prices will go up in the long term. We are at refining capacity, and any disruption will tighten supplies. This is what has happened. Higher prices will cut consumption, and the system will return to balance. There will be gouging, as in any crisis, and the only solution is to prosecute the bas*****. The oil companies are making record profits, so let's also remove their subsidies and tax cuts. Let the market set prices, not the government.

When pay at the pump first became popular, I read to be careful, they put a $50 hold on your card and it may not come off for a while. Bad news for nearly maxed out. I am sure they will fix this soon, yeap, a higher hold.

You're right Jason, we could also run premium and advance the ignition to get slightly better fuel economy this way!!!

Remember, life could be worse. We could be living in Iraq right now.

This should be a wake up call (like most extreme crisis situations) to all of us. Market forces will work this out, but their will no doubt be bumps and pain along the way. SUV sales will drop further, along with other gas hogs. This will stimulate demand for more alternative sources of energy and cars. This is how it works. It's not always smooth, but that is the way it works best in the LONG RUN.

Demand is exceeding supply...or is it?

Hopefully oil companies are jerking people around with this situation.

I am so glad I sold the HEMI when I did.

13mpg to 34mpg.

Maybe more now with M1 0w-20.

In Georgia, gas is going for $5.87 a gallon at a BP station.

It is selling for $4.99 at an Exxon? somewhere, didnt get where.

Thou hast misspelled "misspelled."

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

I am so glad I sold the HEMI when I did. How much did you get for it. Perhaps it will be a good time to gobble up the gas guzzlers. Look what a 67 GTO is worth for these days. When they come up with some comtraption to put on your engine to burn Dirty fuel of somekind you may say I wish I'd kept it.
