LOL. The tanker caused crude a 80 cent spike for a few hours - if you can even call it a spike and it was down by open the next day. They will use any excuse to improve margins.
The gas station chains will use any excuse they can, especially if it's in the news - an oil tanker seized by the US military, a "refinery shutdown" in California, etc. I'll bet they tell the stores these so they have an answer in case anyone asks.

They jumped here again for the holiday. Almost everyone at $2.60.

I filled on the way to Columbia SC for $2.32. Its usually more expensive on the interstate - but the games continue.

I was in Florida earlier this week and was shocked how much more gas was there. Anywhere from $2.65 to $2.99.

I filled up yesterday with RUG for $2.39 @ BJ's.
The Meijer on the other side of the road was $2.69.
Everything on the street was either at $2.99, or headed there.

It’s worse than that up here. A lot of stations charge as much as 45 cents per LITER more for premium, so that’s an extra $1.70 per gallon 😡
I vaguely remember years ago that each step up was a dime. So something like $1.50 for regular, $1.70 for premium. I’m talking 1990’s.

Actually it wasn’t that long ago that Costco was only ten cents a liter more for premium. It was within the last three years for sure.
