Car is a 1991 BMW 318i. The car has hot restart issues (will never start when full hot unless throttle is applied), but starts and idles and runs beautifully.
Yesterday I was filling up with gas, and after about five gallons, it started spilling out the filler. All down the side of the car... This has never happened before.
Stopped it, restarted it and it filled the rest of the way just fine. The tank started fairly empty.
I know that one of the lines on the evap cannister was rusted out when I first got the car. I replaced with rubber line and it has been fine since. Never had a CEL, car runs great.
While this may be a fluke, and may be entirely speculative:
1) could this be a sign of a bad evap cannister or inability of the tank and fuel system to deal with vapor?
2) could this be related to why my car will never run from hot start?
Thanks!
