What's the best lubricant for a garage door opener? Can I use grease?

I used Silicone Spray for 25 years and it has always been quiet & haven't had one single issue.

I saw a new Garage Door Opener Lube From WD40 today at Home Depot.Check it out.

The pro that installed garage door recommended silicon. I bought a spray lube for garage door at Lowe's called 3-in-1 Garage Door Lubricant. I was told to avoid grease.

Chain or worm drive?
Either case, silicone spray is better than dry, but hardly ideal.
Grease a worm drive, and use motorcycle chain lube [or dedicated spray lube] on a chain.

I use a white colored lithium based(I think that is correct) grease lube on my screw drive and it works fine

It's made by Genie...It doesn't appear to be chain or worm driven. I think I'll try some Silicone spray. Thanks!

Sorry I wasn't clear as to what I was lubricating. It's the rail.
Still not sure if it's chain or worm drive without taking the housing cover off.

I watched a youtube video from a garage guy who said not to grease the rail. grease the bearings in the wheels. of course, not to use wd40

Chain = just about any quality lube. Bicycle chain lube will work well.

Worm drive has a lot friction. Something with EP additive should be used.

Silicone is poor for metal on metal applications but fine for metal on plastic.

I use SL-10 from MPC which is an oil/grease combo with EP additives. Works great on both worm drive and chains, as well as the metal plain bearings on the doors.

One of the heavier bike chain lubes would probably work as well.

My manual stated not to grease my screw drive? I use PB Garage Door Lube (Big Lots buyout several years ago) on the rails. Garage door dude said to use WD40 on the springs -- to prevent from rusting (when replacing my springs a few years ago).

I have a chain driven one and I use some chain lube that I got at Walmart, works fine for me.
