I was just in this situation myself. I was having problems with my 15 year old Moore-O-Matic (chain drive) opener, and Moore-O-Matic went out of business several years ago, so parts are unobtainium. Plus, the problem wasn't an easy fix, the problem was within the circuit board.

I went with a Genie belt-drive. I'm more than satisfied.

I wanted to follow this up with some more info, now that I've used the Genie belt drive for a while.

I installed this unit:

It has a DC motor. It is very quiet and very smooth. When it is running, it sounds like a cordless drill.

It also runs about 1/2 speed for the first and last 4 inches of travel, so it starts and shuts off gently. It never "jerks" the door like my old opener did.

It has two light sockets, front and back. I have plenty of lights in my garage, so I'm only using one bulb. However, the fact that it has two sockets would be a nice addition for someone who could use some extra light in the garage. The lights can be turned on and off manually using the wall control.

Installation was exactly what I expected, no surprises. I only used the instructions as a guide for what order to do things in.

I bought this opener as package deal, that came with 2 remotes, a wireless outdoor remote, and a "deluxe" wall control (door button, light button, and lock out switch) for $149. After a $50 rebate, the final price was $99, which is a bargain for what all I got.

Considering that the final cost was $99, I should have bought one a year ago, when my old opener started giving me problems.
