A friend of mine bought 4 Denso Platinum TT for the 2.2L OHV, and then he found some Iridiums on sale, and he gave them to me. Unused, still in the original packaging. My question is, they are pre-gapped at .040", the plugs on my cav are supposed to be gapped .060". Are these some of the ones that don't need the gap set, or do they?

Isnt your Cavalier a 2.2liter motor, same as your friends? If so,why would his be 40,and yours 60? I dont think your supposed to mess with the gap on those plugs.btw, does your car call for that same plug?

Of course you should check the gap, and adjust as necessary.
A clod can bend or break things, but this is within all normal DIYs repertoire.
The problem is that the plugs may not be made to be at .060, and then if you gap them up, the side electrode will be at an angle.
Parallel is best. I can get them parallel, but it is rather fine work.

Installed at .040" gap, and they run great. Idle is noticeably smoother. Other than that no noticeable increase in power (as expected of course) and too soon to tell on gas mileage. If nothing else, I will be able to keep them in for much longer.
