Gambling with non-OEM brake pads?

Been lurking this thread and honestly I don’t think using non‑OEM is “gambling” if you pick a decent brand. Plenty of folks here say Duralast/Napa, Bosch Quietcast, Akebono, etc. have worked fine for daily driving without weird issues.
IME, dealer pads and rotors squeals prematurely. This is with proper installation and lube. So, I would rather go with warranty pads like Duralast Elite.

I’m getting a little cold “rub” with these pads - might be my fault for not installing all the anti-rattle clips/wear indicators (the pads came with none, I had a hardware kit with them on hand but with only two. But otherwise, they seem to work fine.

I never install the wear indicators.

I also know the thread is old but I can't recall a single time I've actually used OEM frictions -- unless you count something like an Aisin clutch on a Toyota (which is debatable as it's been shown these are still likely a lower tier than provided to Toyota corporate)

That said, most junk I work on is ~2020 or older. Around here six years old is still "pretty new" -- and then I watch Eric O where 6-year-old cars are ready for the scrapper :D

I don't fault anyone if you want to source OEM. It's your vehicle and your $ Whether it’s a slotted rotor under your foot or the thrill of hitting big on a slot, blackjack hand, or roulette spin. It’s like when you’re torn between cutting corners and the rush of a poker bluff, and that same vibe is exactly why folks dig this https://casinospacebe.com/review/fgfox/ - tons of betting options, smooth game play, and loads of games from slots to live tables that keep you locked in. Talking about money risk here feels strangely connected to that buzz of betting online, weighing that risky brake setup vs the possibility of cruising in with a huge jackpot in your account. Bottom line: take calculated risks in life, whether under the hood or at the betting table
OEM friction can feel like overkill on a lot of everyday cars, and a lot of folks don’t ever notice problems running good‑quality aftermarket pads. If you’re just driving 90% city/highway at normal speeds, many aftermarket compounds will stop you confidently and last a reasonable amount of time.
