Miles this oci: 10,053
Oil Filter: ST16 Wal-mart SuperTech
Oil Added: 0

The oil was changed after an hour drive. Most my driving is 70-80 mph interstate with cruise set. I have an 1.45 hour, 103 mile one way drive to work 5 times a week. A couple times during this oci I was running late and did most of my drive at 100 mph the whole way.

The oil filer has been cut open. Media looks great. End caps look great. Adbv doesn't work at all. I do think they have made improvements to the filter. Will post pics when I have time and think about it. The was some almost fine sandy stuff in the bottom of the filter and on the dome side end cap. This is the major reason I like the base end bypasses.

I refilled and replaced with Chevron 5w30 and WIX oil and air filters.

Blackstone comments: Your engine still looks great in analysis. You ran this oil out to 10,053 miles and wear looks as good as it did back in 2009/2010 when you were running only half as long on your oil. The Castrol you used last time (when you didn't sample) likely introduced sodium into the oil, and it's lingering here as residual additive. Potassium is still low, so we don't think this engine has a coolant problem. The viscosity was a little low, but that didn't cause any wear that we can see and fuel is fine, too. The TBN is low at 1.0, so you may want to switch oils to run more miles than this.

Blackstone kills me.

"The TBN is low at 1.0, so you may want to switch oils to run more miles than this." The oil is spent and this was their sage advice? LOL

Glad to see no make up oil was needed.

I don't see a problem with what they said. The OP most likely checked the "want to extend the OCI" box, so since this oil is almost done with @ 10k, if he wants to go further, he needs to switch to a better oil. Simple as that.

1.0 TBN still makes me nervous despite Blackstones assurances.

The oil doesn't stop working once it gets past 1.0 TBN, it just stops cleaning but I'm sure it still has the ability to lubricate the engine well beyond that point.

Looks good but for the tbn. I'd switch to M1 EP and an M1 filter. Watch for promotions at AZ. 5 quarts of ep and an m1 filter for $32-34.

Thank you for doing the first G-oil UOA, I've been waiting for this. And I have to say it is a great UOA, the wear is very low for 10k miles. TBN of 1.0 after 10k miles is fine, it means the oil is good for 10k miles but not longer.

It looks like the oil that everyone picked up because it was free after rebate ended up actually being a solid oil.

But the real question is, what did it smell like when you drained it?

The oil smelled like oil, but I thought it seemed to wash off your hands a little easier, seemed lighter. Could be in my head.

I'm planning on taking the Chevron dino out to 10,000 miles. I talked to blackstone and they said they don't see a difference in how far a conventional and synthetic can be run.

Oh by the way, I love Costco. I bought 3 cases of the Chevron 5w30 when they had the coupon. It was $1.75 a qt. Also, yesterday I received my $26 rebate check from G.E.T.. In that they also send you a $20 rebate off your next 5 qt jug. There were other rebates for their non automotive oil products.

This is correct. I did.

I'd need to see the TAN before going that long, especially with it shearing down a bit, lowering flashpoint and rock-bottom TBN. IMO, the oil isn't almost done; it is done. 10k on dino seems doable with your number of highway miles, so why not switch to M1 EP, as mentioned before, and doube your interval. I STRONGLY disagree with Blackstone if they indeed said dino would perform the same as synthetic with your driving conditions. Only one way to find out, though...

Also, the 1800 ppm of Ca is what will keep the motor clean, not the TBN, which represents the oils alkylinity reserv - that which neutralizes acids.

At the very least, this should put any suspicions to rest that this oil will simply grenade your engine. Thanks a lot! I will have a UOA in four months or so with a 5,000 OCI.

Looking forward to seeing other samples that in different apps and also shorter/longer OCIs

Thanks for posting things. Great to see. TBN at 1.0, looks like you changed this out at just the right time according to the TBN, but the wear metals still looked excellent. Still, 10K is far more miles than most people see. Looks like a great oil.

All the wait, and just a fantastic UOA. 10,000 miles seems a stretch for this oil, but I think most people weren't as concerned with extended drains as they were with catastrophic and irreversible engine destruction from trying a new oil technology... and obviously that has not happened.
