I was at wal- mart today and i said to my self well **** i am going to try the super tech oil filter ( I use hasting most of the time ! ) I need the st3980 for my 89 S-10 4.3 , and i was looking at the filter ( and by the way looks to me like a **** fine filter ) and some guy came up to me and said you going to buy that junky filter to put on your engine , and i said yes and then told him about this site, and how most people here say they are fine filters, ( and by the looks they are ) and he told me to get a real filter a fram, and i said i would if they hade no card board end caps, but they may be good filters ( did not want to argue about a oil filter LOL ), so i got my filter and went to get some thig elese, when i left there was 6 of the st3980 left when i came back to get another one ( for 1.98 what the **** ) there was only 4 left, and when i got i line to pay for them the guy 2 people in front of me was the same guy who said you going to buy that junky filter . guess what he hade 2 super tech st3980 in his hands too, he just looked at me and smiled LOL

HaHa I try to tell people about Fram filters all the time. But most people just roll their eyes.

Went to Wal-Mart at lunch to get a ST filter and oil for the wife's car to run an Auto-RX cycle. Shoot, for ST they didn't have squat. Looks like Fram is taking over. Hafta go to AutoZone for an AC I guess. Havoline was only $1.16 though!

Once when I went to my local parts store to get a filter a new to me car so I had to have the guy look it up. He doesn't tell me the part number and starts reaching for FRAM. I stop him and tell him anything but fram. He tries to argue with me as to why because there are about 5 other people in the aisle. I responded to that with "Poor quality control" and he stopped arguing and gave me my PowerFlo (purolator rebadge) at half the price of the fram ($2.50 v $5).

A/C Delco or Motorcraft for my nice cars and racecars, Super Tech for the beaters.

... but that's a whole different topic untoitself!

Wally-World isn't bad, but they are pushing to a measure to build super-centers in my county, i'm voting no on that!

I refuse to go and only because of their checkout lines. Supercenters have baskets of groceries in every checkout, slow and takes forever. At this point in my life I will pay extra for the service of a local hardware store, auto parts shop etc. Anything over lines and lines.

I want to give up explaining to Joe Q. Ignorants of Fram's threat to humanity (or at the gasoline engine)

Fram is evil, and i am beginning to view them in the same way as the 3rd reich, or soviet union and what not. Repugnant garbage.

When I buy a SuperTech i feel i am privy to some secret knowledge of what i have....thanks to this board.

So when I see John Q. Ignorant buying the cheapo penny-wise pound foolish cheapo oil, or bragging about how good Fram is.

In my head I laugh at his pothetic existence and pity his defenceless engine.

I stocked up on 8 of the ST filters this weekend. The stock boy kinda looked wierd at me when i aksed if they have anymore of the 3980.Both my car and truck use the same filter.

Mrs. Heinz-Kerry has a couple bazillion dollars in the bank, wonder if she's ever actually been in a Wal-Mart?

Yep,

After almost 12months of NOT a SINGLE ST3980 SuperTech the local walmart just got in about 10 on shelf.

I was shocked

Even more kewl was that these SuperTech's had the Champion common TT stamping on the baseplate. From my understanding the TT stamping is also on K&N, AC Delco, Mobil 1 ... it means it is a domestic filter...not made in mexico that is.

For 1.97$ it is quite a bargain i think.

ZR,

Interesting duality on the TT stamping.

The steel must be cast somewhere and sent to wherever (domestic or otherwise) that Champion has for final filter assembly.

"TT", "Y", etc. has nothing to do with the country of origin. These letters are merely Champion Labs' internal codes for the exit port diameter and thread pitch. These end caps aren't castings, either. They're stampings from thick gauge sheet steel.
