Anyone had problems with leakage from a Fumoto valve? I have one on the Dodge Caravan in my sig and had one on the Elantra I just traded with no problems on either.

I just put one on my '09 RAV4 a few days ago and tonight I found a small leak on the garage floor. I poked my head underneath just in time to see a drip come off the Fumoto valve.

Oil level is OK on the dipstick and I have to run some errands right now but I'm going to get under it tonight and see what's going on.

Mine leaked soon after installing. I didn't notice any drips, but after the third or so fillup afterward I noticed the level slightly below the full mark - I never notice a single bit of consumption, even after 7,500 miles, so I was fearing the worst (e.g., busted piston ring lands.)

The gasket had absorbed some oil and was loose enough for a drop of oil to form, but not fall away while I watched for about a minute. I got ~ 1/2 turn and haven't had an issue in maybe 8k miles.

As for the ball valve itself, no leakage at all.

I used their gasket but didn't dip it in oil. Guess I should've read the manual, huh?

I tightened it slightly so will see if that helps.

Hi
I just bought 2 but have not installed them yet. They did not come with instructions however. Is there something I should know about installing them? I did notice they had a gasket. Must we use theirs or should we use the Honda gasket form the dealer that I usually use?

Any help is appreciated.

I would use only the washer that comes with the valve because it is designed to crush just enough to seal at the pan and the valve without over torqueing. Remember that the valve body and threaded portion is made of brass, so it won't take a lot of torque like other metals. Just an 1/8 to 1/4 turn after snug should be good enough. Google for their website...they have directions and cautions. It should work fine, mine have lasted without leaks or drips for more than 5 years on both of my current vehicles.

BTW, you're gonna love the ease of use of the valve. And as long as the valve is not the lowest sticking down thing under the car...don't worry. Odds are that if you hit something that can/will take the valve out, that probably will not be the only serious thing damaged!

I ordered one for the caravan a month ago, just waiting for the weather to warm up to finally install it. The construction of the unit is very high quality. I opted for the "elbow" model that comes with a 90* attachment piece that can easily be removed when not in use. I'm going to cap the valve when I have the elbow piece removed to keep the dirt and moisture out.

I have one that I put on my pickup truck back in 1991. 276K miles later and still no leak. I have them on all of my vehicles and none has leaked.
