Okay,
I have been unsing Mobil 1 10w30 (changed @ 3k) for 8yrs in this motor. '98 Jeep 5.9 magnum V8. Then the last year or so I switched to Mobil 1 High Mileage due to high-miles, and a few minor leaks (no drips, just seepage).
The vehicle burns about a QT of Mobil 1 every 3k and always has. I suspect the problem is due to the Mobil 1 and that if I switch to a different oil it could curb the problem. I have read about others with the same issue.
Anyway, I was gonna switch to Castrol GTX High Mileage formula, but I have just become aware that Valvoline makes Max-Life in full-syn formula. I was going to try the Castrol High Mileage dino because so far, the ONLY High Mileage Full-syn oil I had found was Mobil 1...
But I am not a Valvoline guy, so should I try the Max-life, full syn, or will the Castrol dino High Mileage be okay?
Oh and this vehicle is not a DD anymore and will only be driven a couple thousand miles per year tops. I plan to change the oil every 3k or 1yr, which ever comes first.
Will a dino/semi-syn oil be fine, or should I keep full-syn High Mileage oil since I now have another option besides Mobil 1?
