My truck is wider and longer than a typical 8' bed. It can be a challenge if you dont park far out...
I heard a joke that the first-gen Tundra is a "7/8 truck."I'd have to say my favorite size truck would have to be the first-gen Tundra. Haven't looked at the dimensions, but the latest Tacoma seems about that size now.
Dictate, no, but how far back should we compare? Is there a particular time limit you'd like to dictate?

Model T had a wheel base of 100.
Length of 128
height is a bit over 69
Weight 1480lbs
So the 1980 truck is ridiculous by comparison.
I'm sure the Model T was much easier to park.
Here is a mid size/compact Ranger from 2003. This can give you an idea of how much trucks have grown.

I remember when my dad bought his (now mine) 2001 F350 brand new it was like a monster truck in comparison to the older trucks. Tall and a ton of ground clearance. You are not imagining anything. Pickups have gotten taller too. Anyone parked next to them will have fun backing out of that space.

Now it looks like a lowered 2wd next to newer trucks!
If a Tacoma is too big, the spot is too small. When I was working I had a designated parking spot. Another employee bought a new truck, a Toyota Tacoma "double cab". That truck just didn't fit in the parking spaces (which had been the same size for years). It was almost impossible to maneuver into the new owner's designated space.
This was not a case of smaller spaces, it was a case of a too big truck, and a smallish truck at that.
^^^ I never leave my hitch in the receiver for just this reason! I thought I had broken my leg when I walked between my truck and the front of my wife’s car and I had forgotten to take my hitch out of the receiver, we park nose to tail in our garage. It only happened once! What about the PU’s that leave the Ball Mount on, Good for you to trip over, or hurt your leg, or when they parallel park and punch a hole in your grill.
