Hi,

An inline device is available here that mounts in the fuel line and is claimed to replace the need to add valve recession products to unleaded fuel in cars that previously ran on leaded fuel.

Super (leaded fuel) is no longer available here and its temporary replacement, lead replacement fuel, (premium unleaded with an additive) will become unavailable by the end of the month.

This device apparently adds tin to the fuel to replace the lead of super fuel.

It is also claimed to add to fuel economy and reduce emissions. This is not the primarly reason for considering this device , although it would be an added benefit.

Anyone had experience with this device? Does it work or just snakeoil?

Having spent an entertaining half hour "discussing" one of these at some field days, most of the claims that they make are incongruous.

Q: "How does it protect the valves ?"
A: "the tin that is released from the unit prevents recession".

Q: "How does this tin affect the catalyst ?"
A: "It doesn't it releases tinat such tiny rates that the catalyst is unaffected."

Q: "How long do they last ?"
A: "Over 650,000km...good enough to wear out two cars"

"Hmmmm, 65000km is about 6.5 tonnes of fuel. This thing weighs maybe 1 kilogramme.

Guy wanders over to another customer.

Is BS just use a good aftermarket gasoline treatment that is for unleaded gasoline and you will be fine there are a few on the market.

Has anyone used one of these? They guarantee a 7% increase in gas mileage and a 50% reduction in measured emissions. If that is anywhere close to true, would we not have been hearing about this little device? And how would you splice this thing into a high pressure fuel line in a modern car or truck?

LarryL, the item in question also claims that you can splice it into LPG (Propane) lines for gas fuelled vehicles.

Not quite sure how the tin carries across the vaporiser.

A lot of things claim better MPG, reduced emissions, etc. Havent seen any that work. Dont think this one will change anything.

For the most part, the increased MPG/decreased emissions is due to the driver driving differently to see if they can note differences, and (typically) driving lighter as a result.
